Why I'm Transparent About My Qualifications
I believe in being transparent about my qualifications and experience, because when you attend one of my classes, you deserve to know who is teaching you and what training they have received.
I first became a Zumba Instructor in 2011. Like many people, I fell in love with the fun, energy and community spirit of Zumba. However, I quickly realised that if I wanted to provide the safest and highest-quality experience possible for my participants, I wanted to continue developing my knowledge beyond a single instructor licence.
That is why I went on to gain recognised fitness qualifications, beginning with my Level 2 Exercise to Music qualification. Unlike a brand licence (like a Zumba licence), these qualifications required extensive study, practical exams, theory exams and professional training. I spent many hours learning about anatomy, physiology, exercise safety, class design, injury prevention and how to create effective workouts for different populations.
Over the years, I have continued to invest in my education, gaining additional fitness qualifications and specialist training. This means that when you come to one of my classes, the session is not simply a collection of dance routines. Every class is carefully structured with participant safety, effectiveness and enjoyment in mind.
My qualifications have also enabled me to teach within professional gym and health club environments. Throughout my career I have taught in a range of respected facilities, including David Lloyd, Nuffield Health and Virgin Active. These organisations require recognised fitness qualifications and often select instructors through auditions to ensure high standards of teaching and member experience.
For me, however, qualifications are only part of the story.
I believe that a great instructor should also create an environment where people feel welcome, supported and comfortable. I know what it feels like to walk into a class and feel nervous or unsure of yourself. I know what it feels like to be the new person in the room. That is why I make a conscious effort to welcome people, learn names where I can, and create a friendly, inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels they belong.
My mission has always been to make exercise accessible to as many people as possible. Exercise has incredible physical and mental health benefits, but barriers often get in the way. These barriers can include confidence, age, injuries, health conditions, previous negative experiences, or financial concerns.
That is why I work hard to keep my classes affordable and accessible while still delivering a high-quality experience. I want people to be able to enjoy the benefits of exercise without feeling intimidated or excluded.
Another thing that makes my classes unique is my passion for dance itself. I have trained in a variety of dance styles, and I love incorporating authentic movements and rhythms from around the world into my classes. This means that participants are not only getting a fantastic workout but are also experiencing genuine dance styles and cultures through movement and music.
Most importantly, I want exercise to be enjoyable.
I believe that people achieve the greatest health benefits when they find movement they genuinely enjoy. If exercise feels like punishment, consistency becomes difficult. If exercise feels like a celebration, people keep coming back. That's why my classes focus not only on fitness, but also on fun, confidence, community, laughter and connection.
So when you come to one of my classes, you're getting more than just a workout. You're getting years of training, professional experience, ongoing education, a welcoming environment, authentic movement, and a genuine commitment to helping people improve their physical and mental wellbeing.
Thank you to everyone who has trusted me to be part of their fitness journey. It is a privilege that I never take for granted. β€οΈ
