After being slapped 9–0 last week (yes, NINE — even the corner flags felt sorry for us), the Dukes’ unbeaten run is officially dead, buried, and probably haunting the changing rooms.

So naturally… what better way to recover than by throwing our over-35s veterans into battle against Yorkshire United, a team of 18–30-year-olds who still recover from a tackle in under three business days?

The Dukes arrive armed with deep heat, dodgy hamstrings, and excuses pre-written. Yorkshire United arrive armed with metabolism, energy, and probably a TikTok following.

Some say this match is punishment for that Blackhorse performance. Others say it’s our heroic quest for revenge. Personally, I think someone in the fixtures committee is just bored and wants chaos.

If you want to witness scenes like:

a 42-year-old winger attempting a sprint and immediately questioning life,

a goalkeeper shouting “LEAVE IT!” at absolutely everything,

three lads pretending they’re “just saving their legs” after 11 minutes,

and a striker who hasn’t scored since the Bush administration but swears “today’s the day”…

…then get yourself down to Wilberfoss Playing Fields, Sunday, 11am.

Bring a chair. Bring popcorn. Bring medical assistance.
Stay after for sausage and chips — the only thing guaranteed to go well for the Dukes.

Fulford vets 1 v 4 York Dukes ⚽

Cold, muddy, chaotic — proper Sunday league.

On a chilly Remembrance Sunday morning, the Dukes rocked up to Fulford hoping to produce a performance to remember. The pitch was wet but firm, and the freshly painted white lines were still drying — literally painted about five minutes before kickoff. Classic.

The Tinkerman was back in charge, this time without his sensible sidekick Adam to keep him in check. Instead, he had Joey — a man known more for encouraging madness than preventing it. Within five minutes, there was talk of man-marking a player who, as it turned out, wasn’t even playing. Good start. 🤷‍♂️

Then came the lineup. Col — a silky midfielder with the pace of a fridge — found himself leading the line up top, while the actual strikers (Pedro and Jase) were shipped out wide. Tactical masterclass? Jury’s still out.

Unsurprisingly, Fulford took advantage of the chaos and went 1–0 up early doors.

But slowly, the Dukes found their rhythm. Captain Craig was sweeping up everything at the back, Liam missed a couple (as is tradition), and Jase was starting to cause problems out wide. The Dukes midfield started to get the better of the opposition with Ian and Mike starting to boss proceedings.

Then came the breakthrough. Some slick play around the box saw Col lay it off to Pedro, who slotted it home like a man late for brunch. 1–1.

Cue the Tinkerman’s favourite part of the game — subs and positional chaos. Three on, three off, and by the end nobody was entirely sure who was playing where (including the manager).

Still, the lads regrouped for the second half. Fulford nearly took the lead early on, but their striker slipped on the slick turf and spooned it wide. The football gods clearly wearing Yellow today.

Moments later, Liam picked up a loose ball following a good tackle by Fozzie, he fed Jase, and boom — 2–1 Dukes!

The Tinkerman then unleashed more subs like a man dealing cards in a pub quiz, keeping legs fresh and confusion fresher.

Fulford pushed for an equaliser, but the Dukes defence stood firm. Then, on the break, Jase once again found himself through on goal — a cheeky shimmy, a cool finish, and it was 3–1.

Fulford’s winger did send poor Turps sliding halfway to York with a filthy turn, but Adam pulled off a superb diving save soon after to keep it that way.

Then came the cherry on top. Adam hoofed one over the top, Sam chased it down (ankles screaming in protest), and unleashed a looping strike from 25 yards that sailed over the keeper’s head. 4–1. Game, set, Dukes.

Five games unbeaten. The Tinkerman’s tactics might defy logic, but you can’t argue with results.

Up the Dukes. ❤️⚽🍺

York Dukes FC Proudly Partner with Andy’s Man Club to Raise Awareness for Mental Health.

York Dukes FC are proud to announce a new partnership with men’s mental health charity Andy’s Man Club, who will feature as the club’s new kit sponsor for the upcoming season and beyond.

This collaboration goes beyond football. By wearing the and the Andy’s Man Club logo on their shirts, the Dukes aim to shine a spotlight on the importance of mental health and encourage open conversations among men in York and beyond.

Founded on the belief that "it’s okay to talk," Andy’s Man Club provides free, confidential support groups for men across the UK, offering a safe space for them to share, listen, and support each other.

The Dukes hope that by taking to the pitch with Andy’s Man Club on their shirts, they can spark conversations on and off the pitch, in the clubhouse, and beyond.

The Dukes would like to extend a thank you to all those who contributed to funding the new kit -

The Brown family,
David, Charlotte, Tim & Karen.
