𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞𝗟𝗬 𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗨𝗣

Buckle up for this one! We have had wheelers all over, and we love it!

𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗣 𝟮.𝟱
Saturday saw new ride leaders Grant and Laura lead a tight 12 strong group up the coast to Craster to enjoy the delights of The Arch! Never disappoints!

The craic was good, the route was good and the riding was even better! A few of us had to finish off with a refreshment at the Widdy Inn. Reel to follow! I’m practicing 😂

𝗞𝗜𝗘𝗟𝗗𝗘𝗥 𝗥𝗢𝗔𝗗 𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗣
Paul Guy led a 56 mile road route back from Kielder where a squad went over and made their way home! Looked epic. Shout out to Brett and Kris who flew to Bolam before closing and to secure much needed sustenance for the rest of the crew! Kudos lads!

These away days are certainly taking off and there will be much more to come!

𝗞𝗜𝗘𝗟𝗗𝗘𝗥 𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗩𝗘𝗟 𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗣
Colin led a 70 mile gravel ride back from Kielder which was up there in the S tier of rides! Thoroughly enjoyable ride back. Wind on their backs however still a slog!

Mark and Morgan had other ideas and put the hammer down after the first 10 miles.

𝗧𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗢𝗥𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗦
Dave and Mark did the tour of the borders on Sunday, some character building weather by all accounts and the visibility was better at the summit of the Devils Beef tub during ride the sun on the dark than Sunday 😂

𝗡𝗔𝗨𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗬 𝗡𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗛𝗨𝗠𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗔𝗡
Isaac confirmed he has a screw loose and raced a downhill MTB stage race on Sunday. Unbelievable scenes. Can’t post the video for expletives but can confirm it’s absolutely nuts! Serious kudos!

𝟯 𝗦𝗪𝗔𝗡𝗦 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘
Brett’s 70 mile spin on Saturday wasn’t enough so it was another early start and off to Selby to bag another 100 miler for the year. Top man Brett!

𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗚𝗜𝗕𝗕𝗘𝗧 𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗠𝗕
Russ seems to have a screw loose also as he entered his second hill climb of the season on the NTR hosted Gibbet Road. Very respectful 16th and onto the next one! The Muckle CC Prospect hill climb on 18th October! That will be a belter, we are taking a squad!

𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗡𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗦 𝗔𝗨𝗗𝗔𝗫
David L completed an 80 mile Audax! Chapeau!

𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗘𝗬’𝗦 𝗘𝗨𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗡 𝗧𝗢𝗨𝗥
Tracey B is bike packing around Netherlands and Germany and having a whale of a time!

𝗥𝗢𝗕 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗦𝗧𝗨 𝗜𝗡 𝗠𝗔𝗝𝗢𝗥𝗖𝗔
Rob and Stu are tackling the iconic glassy smooth roads of the Mecca of cycling in Mallorca, lighthouse. Sa Batalla (Repsol) ticked off, ready for the Queens stage tomorrow!

𝗗𝗔𝗬𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘 𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗦
Today saw 2 groups on the road from Widdy Inn up to Alnmouth old school house coffee shop. Led by Paul and Simon. Great day out.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗹𝘆 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗽

Monday brought a stunning 34 mile sunny ride to Craster from the Widdy Inn pausing at the Piper Pitch for butties and cuppas. A new cafe stop for us but we will be back! The beach was very tempting for the wheelers too it seems! 🏖️

Wednesday saw a few wheelers enjoy an evening 18 mile spin from the Widdy Inn around the local roads, followed by a quick drink at the Widdy Inn before the sunset 🌅

Group 1
Jeff led group 1 today from Amble to The Arch Cafe, Craster on a 31 mile loop. Great chat and our “best cafe award” was sitting pride of place at the cafe for all to see 🥰

Group 2
Gav led a great 40 mile loop from Widdy a community centre to Kirkley cafe with some great craic and good fun had by all. We passed group 3 and were joined by Jim for our final journey home.

Group 2.5
Colin led a 42 mile loop from Pegswood to Bolam Lake. A great route and great craic had by all.

Group 3
Paul F led a 54 mile route to Wylam stopping at The Coffee Tree cafe. This was a new route for us but was a great one which will be repeated!

Dave T, Julia and Darren rode the Glorious Gravel Kielder ride on Saturday too which looked brilliant with some good climbing and gorgeous scenery!

We’ve had wheelers on tour too in the Yorkshire dales, Mallorca and Portobello.

The third and final NE road race series concluded today at Scots Gap which was amazing to see and be a part of the organising team and it was represented by Mark S as organiser; and Kris as a Marshall.

Looking ahead to next week, we’ve got some ride leader training coming up, a gravel ride from Kielder back to Widdy and plenty usual rides with the wheelers!

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗹𝘆 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗽

Lots of wheelers enjoying the Northumberland roads this week! Some further afield!

Group 1
Darren Diplock led group 1 yesterday from Pegswood to The Drift Cafe on a 25 mile loop. Great chat and coffee had by all.

Group 2
Julia Ewart and Jeff S led a 40 mile loop to the Blagdon Cheese 🧀 farm for some cheese related treats. Some amazing conversations had on the road and some wheelers significantly heavier on the way back laden with cheese.

Group 2.5
Colin Wilson led 2.5 on a 45 mile loop to try the new Fern and Forge at Shillbottle. A really welcoming cafe and some lovely treats as well.

Group 3
Paul Foster led a lumpy 50 milers over 3 fords and some of our local iconic climbs. With the obligatory picture at the winters Gibbet after fuelling properly at Bird in Bush Elsdon Northumberland which never disappoints.

Today saw a spin around to Kirkley cafe for Jeff and I taking in the glorious sunshine before the autumn 🍂 is properly upon us!

Our very own Mark Hughes was is Estonia 🇪🇪 for Ironman Tallin where he smashed his time in his third full Ironman 💪🏻💪🏻

Mark Coyle is also out in the Pyrenees climbing some rather iconic climbs ahead of the Vuelta 🇪🇸 reaching there tomorrow!

Great weekend had by all. Always trying to improve the club, always trying to make sure people have fun.

Next week sees the final round of the North East Road race series. Few hours left to enter!

On tonight's episode of 60 minutes, we shall be finding out who left it until the last moment to enter NECL Summer Series Round 4, which takes place at Hetton Country Park on Sunday 23rd August.

Arguably the best cycle circuit north of the M62 there is elevation and technical corners around the lakeside circuit.

𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞𝗘𝗡𝗗 𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗨𝗣 🚴‍♂️🩷💙🧡

Will do the last weeks roundup later today folks. Apologies for the delay.

I has been challenging getting all of our groups with nearly 40 riders some weeks to the same cafe stop so we decided to venture to different cafes this weekend.

𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗣 𝟭. Led by Julia & Andrew Headed north from Widdrington Inn to try the new Fern & Forge Cafe at Shillbottle which did not disappoint. Lovely home bakes and scones was the talking point on the journey home completing the 27 mile loop. Little climb up to Shillbottle worth the marginal pain.

Mark led a 9 strong 𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗣 𝟮 on another north bound adventure stopping at the Running Fox in Longhaughton for some well earned treats. Variety of choices were had by all including a piece of fresh cream sponge which was devoured by John and Phillipa. Egg sarnies, cold, and warmed cheese scones amongst beans on toast and the usual sweet baked. Michael made a new bird 🐦 friend who proceeded to show is new found friendship by dropping on him before his breakfast. A 43 mile spin was enjoyable and everyone smashed it. Welcomed new member Max to the fold!

𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗣 𝟮.𝟱 headed west led by Paul F on a 52 mile loop ending up at Matfen Village coffee shop. No real drama to report other than Grant enjoying his new toy and Michael playing with his Oakleys. Was like an Alice in Wonderland party in the walled table!

𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗣 𝟯 was a pacier number this week (which was evident by the poll) led by Gav on a 63m loop from Cresswell to Bolam Lake. Strong riders were pushing on enjoying the rolling westerly roads.

Away from the club runs saw 2 of our race team head south to Lincoln to compete in the Belvior Road Race. Initially a cat 4 only however opened entries last minute to cat 3’s which meant for a tough days racing! Boys did well and should be very proud of their achievements.

Wheelers Weekly Roundup - Last Week

Last week saw a bumper Wednesday ride with 30 riders venturing out. We went out in 3 groups of 10 around our local loop.

Amazing for a midweek ride!

After the success of our first birthday and awards evening we decided to go up to Craster Arch to deliver the award trophy 🏆

They were absolutely delighted to receive the award. 3 groups descended on the cafe and it really was a takeover.

Off the bike the proceeds from our World Cup sweepstake were put to amazing use by donating to Wansbeck Valley Food Bank. Thank you to VC Simon Waldock for organising.

As the club has entered into its second year membership numbers are amazing.

Here’s to many more years of community building.
