Want to improve at public speaking?

Aaron Day in the full episode drops some fantastic insights!

In May, Aaron WON the UK & Ireland Toastmasters International Public Speaking Championship, competing across multiple rounds against speakers from across the country.

But what got him there wasn’t charisma.

It wasn’t a perfectly memorised script.

It was simple:
🤜 Stop performing. Start serving.

In my latest Speak & Serve episode, Aaron breaks down exactly how he approaches every speech, every room, every audience.

The takeaways fro you are just as relevant in a boardroom, a sales conversation, or a leadership moment as they are on a competition stage.

Including:

- Why words are fragile but intentions are solid, and what to fall back on when nerves strike
- The heckler who taught him the most important lesson of his career
- How ordinary, everyday stories create the deepest audience connection
- Why the spotlight should never be on you

This is a masterclass in how communication when done right, is all about SERVICE.

As you can imagine, we were in alignment!

The gift of Public Speaking

Is confidence what is needed to win at public speaking?

What story are you telling yourself today?

Because the story you repeat becomes the life you experience.

Most people don't need more talent, more luck, or more opportunity.

They need a better story.

A story that says:

✅ I can learn.
✅ I can improve.
✅ I can recover.
✅ I can start again.

Every day is a blank page.

The question is not what happened yesterday.

The question is what story you choose to write next.

The 3 necessary traits of leadership

A recent research project by Ron Friedman, Ph.D. studied 100’s of successful companies.

They identified the three main qualities leaders need to create “Super Teams”.

They are:

👉 CARING

💥 CONFIDENCE

✅ CONSISTENCY

Think of a leader you admire, the one that inspired you to greatness… did they reflect these qualities?

For me, a leader demonstrates these qualities in the way they need to communicate.

Reacting to situations with care, asking questions that are meaningful, and listening with intent.

Showing confidence to communicate the good, and the toughest of messages. To confidently communicate in ways that others can understand.

And communicating consistently, on good days and bad. In crisis and calm.

For you, are these 3 qualities the ones that matter?

Time to find a new best friend?

They tell you “you can’t do that”
They say “you will look silly”

Tell you that lyou could have done better … if only you could be more like (insert name 🤮)”

How long would you tolerate it❓

And yet, we allow the inner workings of the mind, that is always there with you, to be destructive.

Why tolerate that ?

This is the mission of a coupke or new clients.

To find the better versions of their thoughts; and accept the courage and vulnerability to speak, to contribute, to be seen.

Because deep down, they know they can, and they are missing out.

Struck a chord? Will you scroll on, or do something?

When has / does your inner voice derail you?

“I really should start posting videos”… you say. Then do nothing?

I meet people every week who are brilliant at what they do, yet when the phone comes out for a video, something changes.

The self-doubt arrives. Perfectionism kicks in.
The recording gets deleted.

And another week passes without posting a video (which they want to do❗️).

Meanwhile, people with less experience, credibility and expertise are getting noticed online simply because they're visible.

That's exactly why Adam Chandler
from Reel Film and I are hosting The One-Day Video Confidence Workshop. 15th July, nr Wetherby.

The goal is to get you over the line with a video habit.

By the end of the day, you'll have recorded, AND published your first 60-second video. Not a draft. Not a practice run. A real video, live on your profile before you get back in your car.

If you're a coach, consultant, adviser, trainer or business owner who knows they should be showing up online but keeps putting it off, this workshop is for you.

✅ Build a simple 60-second message
✅ Learn how to manage camera nerves
✅ Record your video in a supportive environment
✅ Edit it and Post it live before the day ends

🎥 Watch the video I did, and, if it sounds like the right challenge for you, search:

"One-Day Video Camera Confidence Workshop" on Eventbrite

I'd love to help you press record and finally get your expertise seen!

Where are you on a video habit? Stop and Start, or something else?

It’s 0715, and the place is buzzing

Some on their own, some in pairs, others in groups.

All… free.

Being social
Beings active
Being human.
No devices.

It’s an outside excercise spot which I often see on my travels while speaking or facilitating.

No membership required.
Provided by the locality.

And no surprise then that this location’s life expectancy is 1.5 years longer than that of a Uk citizen.

It got me thinking about leaders and speakers. They have the opportunity to make investments, or give messages, that can inspire and motivate others.

Small steps and decisions that can create a ripple of change to those that they lead, or meet.

I do love the UK, but I wonder if we are lacking the big picture social change projects that the populus needs, and needs to be spoken about.

Would you use an outdoor exercise spot in your local village, or would it be vandalised in a week, or would it fail the risk assessment?

Often we see clients getting anxious about speaking, or an important pitch.

What if you could manage this better... for free?

What habits influence anxiety? Top 5 here.

Mental Health Awareness Week asks us to “Take Action.”

Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs come from doing the basics.

I was listening recently The Solved Podcast discussing research-backed ways to better manage anxiety.

From the +2 hour podcast, these five are the research proven ways manage anxiety:

1. Social connection
2. Sleep
3. Meditation
4. Exercise
5. Therapy

And one of the biggest things to avoid?

Alcohol.

Because whilst it may temporarily numb anxiety, it amplifies it afterwards.

In client interactions I hear anxiety associated with:

* Speaking in meetings
* Networking and small talk
* Presenting to senior stakeholders
* Walking into rooms full of unfamiliar people
* Feeling judged when contributing ideas
• Getting a no from a prospect

People often think they have a “speaking problem.”

Communication, Sales and Leadership is rarely just about words.

It’s about state. 😀
And you can influence it, with your actions.

So perhaps this Mental Health Awareness Week, the question isn’t:
“How do I become a better speaker, seller, or leader?”

Maybe it’s:
“How do I better manage the anxious state that’s stopping me from being me?

Watch here:
