The results of the Big Butterfly Count have shown it's been an average year for butterflies, and with many species in long-term decline, it's going to take more than a sunny spell to turn things around 🦋📉

However, there is a simple way you can take action to help butterflies recover.

Introducing the Big Butterfly Count County Leaderboard! 🏆

Hampshire are currently smashing it out of the park with an impressive 2,316 counts submitted so far, but Devon are hot on their heels.

Which county will be crowned citizen science champions?

Even the scores by getting out for the count between now and the 10 August. The data you submit lets us know how butterflies and moths are faring across the UK and how we can better protect them for the future.

So far, over 47,000 of you have taken part in the Big Butterfly Count - thank you! 💚🦋

Over 615,000 butterflies and moths have been recorded, and the Large White is taking the lead for the most spotted butterfly🥇

If you haven't seen any butterflies yet, try not to despair! It's just as important for us to know where there aren't any as well as where there are. There will also be plenty of opportunities to try again over the next few weeks.
