Cains Cross Ladies RFC 5 Westbury Ladies RFC 17
Westbury were all fired up for this game, and from the whistle Cains knew they were in for a hard game. The first 5 minutes were full of fast flowing rugby with the visitors having most of the possession, the referee had little to do as there were no handling errors in the first 6 minutes. Cains defended valiantly but the constant pressure from Westbury resulted in a try from second row forward Laura ( two tone ) Wilson sadly Bates missed the conversion. Cains stepped up the pressure and came back hard against the visitors, poor tackling and lack of concentration allowed a breakaway try for the home side on the 15 minute mark, again unconverted. The rest of the first half was a battle, with both sides attacking and defending well, 5 all half time. Westbury came out in the second half determined not to let this game slip away, as they had done in their previous encounter with Stothard & Pitt. Westbury dominated all of the play, and through sheer determination were rewarded with a try when second row come scrum half Claire Bates was thrown over the line by her team mate no 8 Nikki Smee , Bates converted her own try. Westbury continued to pile on the pressure and with 10 minutes left to play outside centre Lana Plummer broke through to score an electrifying try, sadly unconverted. The home side never gave up, but Westbury were not going to let Cains score. Westbury Ladies first win, with lots more to come. A great game of rugby to watch with both side putting in 100 % effort.
