KUGB CHARITY APPEAL 2025 - 26 π₯
The KUGB is proud to announce the new charity appeal for 2025 - 26 is Lupus UK.
Throughout the next 12 months, clubs and members across the UK will be raising funds to support this important cause.
LUPUS UK is the only national charity in the UK dedicated to supporting people affected by lupus β a serious, incurable autoimmune disease. Lupus causes the immune system to attack healthy tissue, leading to inflammation, pain, and damage to vital organs such as the heart, kidneys, lungs, and brain.
Why Weβve Chosen This Cause: Isabelleβs Story
In September 2024, Isabelle β a teenage black belt from Hutton SKC β was diagnosed with lupus.
She became seriously unwell and spent 9 days in Alder Hey Childrenβs Hospital. Thankfully, early treatment meant there was no lasting organ damage β but lupus is a lifelong condition. Isabelle will now need daily medication and is likely to experience flare-ups throughout her life.
The impact has been huge. She missed almost the entire Autumn term at school and faced the challenges of recovery at a time when most children are simply focused on enjoying their teenage years. But Isabelle is resilient. Since January, sheβs been back at school and, with the support of her karate family, has returned to training at Hutton SKC. She is gradually building up her strength and managing her condition day by day.
Being back in the dojo has helped Isabelle reconnect with the people and routines that bring her joy. Her family had never heard of lupus before her diagnosis. Itβs a frightening and unpredictable disease, and itβs especially hard to accept that a young girl like Isabelle will have to live with it forever. No one should face lupus alone β and with your help, we can make a real difference.
