About Myself...
My name is Michael, I am a fully qualified REPs Level 3 Personal Trainer and McLeary Personal Training is my freelance company. I first got interested in fitness around 16 years old when I left school and signed a full time two year apprenticeship with Millwall Football Club. This means I spent a vast amount of my time in gyms and exercising on a daily basis, experiencing different

types of training and fitness approaches. I had also been at the club 7 years prior to this, so was able to see the progression of exercises from when I was a beginner just starting out aged 9, to when I was 18 years old and in peak condition. Experience...
I have experience working with clients with varying goals and ambitions. Although many of my clients look to lose weight, tone up or just get healthier, I have also worked with clients who wish to train as preparation for a sport/event, such as young aspiring athletes and also those who are in need of some rehabilitation work. I have also trained clients with current or previous health issues and muscle/joint problems, for example, returning to exercise after a heart attack, correcting lower back problems including lordosis, increasing the strength and flexibility of weak joints such as rotator cuff injuries, and much more. Furthermore, I have worked in numerous gyms so am able to incorporate that experience together with my past footballing regime, to create exciting and effective workouts for clients. Muscle gain/bulking - Nutrition plays an important part of any fitness goal and is even considered more important than the training itself (even though getting that right is also essential). This is because the old saying of "you can't out train a bad diet" is true. Eating unhealthy food all day won't get you the muscular or toned body you want because you've been to the gym 5 times this week!

If you're someone who struggles putting on muscle or a 'hard-gainer', you've probably already tried this method of eating bad quality high calorie food in an attempt at adding muscle mass. You'll have also probably found out that it doesn't work that way and been scratching your head as to why - after all calories are calories aren't they?

Well although foods that have a high calorie count will obviously contribute to your daily amount of calories, the type of nutrients you eat also play a big part. Each macronutrient does something different within your body - carbs: primary energy source, protein: muscle and tissue rebuilding, fat (healthy): secondary energy source, helps body absorb nutrients.

You also can't expect to load up on just protein in an attempt of packing on the muscle either, so getting a balance of these macronutrients is key. Deficiencies in one or more of these nutrients will probably mean poor results. Calories aren't to be ignored but pay close attention to the macronutrient content in all of the food you eat, as it will have an impact on your body whether that be good or bad!

Success isn't as easy as a lot of people think! Many people's expectations don't meet the reality of what's needed when it comes to fitness. Training is hard and keeping on top of your nutrition is probably even harder. So allow for some bad days in the gym and with your diet but don't let it fall apart, as keeping things consistent is crucial to reaching your goals whatever they may be.

And remember, reaching your goals is that much sweeter when you've had to work hard for them so don't be afraid of the graft needed to get there 💪
