Day 2 of our World Cup Week is complete!

The knockout round was played this morning. The winners of both semi finals were England and Brazil.

Tomorrow morning the finals, starting at 09:30, will be:
Form 1-4: 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 v 🇧🇷
Form 5&6: 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 v 🇧🇷

Day 1 of our World Cup Week is complete!

All children from Form 1-6 have taken part in a football competition representing teams from the World Cup. They have also been competing World Cup activities in class, learning a dance for the World Cup Final Opening Ceremony on Wednesday and taking part in lots of themed competitions.

The Under 11 cricket squad travelled to Essex for the annual Bancrofts cricket festival on Wednesday 10th June. It started off as a sunny morning and both boys’ and girls’ teams were all very excited for a day of cricket, not withstanding the very early start with a 7:15am meet in the coach park!

The Under 11 girls started off with a match against Avon House. They narrowly lost this by one wicket. They then played Bancrofts, Avon House again, and then Bancrofts for a second time. Although all four matches ended with a narrow defeat by a small number of runs, the girls learnt a lot throughout the morning with some of them having their first taste of hardball cricket too. The games were all really close and there were some good batting and bowling displays on the show from our girls.

The boys started off with their first group game against Brentwood. The match was very close going into the final over with Brentwood just needing a run to win off of the final two balls. They managed to get to their run total with just one ball to play as we fell to a narrow defeat in our opening game. However, we won our second and third match matches against Bancrofts and Avon House with some excellent team displays. This meant that we finished in joint second place in our group.

Unfortunately, rain then halted play and we did not manage to complete the afternoon programme. After adding up all of the scores, our boys were awarded silver medals for finishing in second place in the shield competition. The girls finished in tenth place.

As the excitement starts to build, we have organised a St Edmund’s Prep Fantasy Football World Cup League. We warmly invite all children, parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters of our school community to join.

Entry is free, you just need to click on the link and select a team from a £100 million budget. Points are accumulated throughout the World Cup for each of your selected players based on goals scored, games won, clean sheets and so on. The full set of rules is available on the website.

It should be a lot of fun and will go alongside some other fun World Cup- themed activities that we have planned for the end of term.
