Turns out getting strong is pretty chic 💅🏻

When Ailsa first came to me, she'd already built a solid training routine and knew her way around a barbell. She was consistent, worked hard and had even signed herself up for her first powerlifting competition… without really knowing what she'd signed herself up for 😂

But I could see straight away that she had so much more potential to unlock

She could squat, bench and deadlift, but her technique needed some work and she'd never trained specifically for powerlifting before. With more structure behind her training, technical coaching and programming built around getting her stronger, we got to work. 💪🏻

And look at her now 🔥

She's built some serious lean muscle, added 85kg in total weight across her lifts, and now deadlifts a huge 150kg - double her bodyweight 🤯

But as her coach, the numbers aren't even my favourite part.

It's seeing how much she's developed as a lifter.
Her technique has transformed, she's confident under heavy weight, she understands her lifts and she now genuinely looks and trains like an athlete 🔥

What started with signing herself up for a local competition has turned into two comps, a genuine love for the sport and now we're preparing for her first IPF competition in November.

Ailsa is also a pretty perfect example of why coaching isn't just for beginners.

You can already train hard.
You can already be consistent.
You can already know how to lift.

Sometimes you just need the right programming, technical coaching and support to unlock what you're capable of.

Very, VERY proud coach over here 🥹💪🏻

Strong looks good on you, Ailsa 💅🏻

75KG BENCH PB 🔥

I’ve hit 72.5kg x2 plenty of times - pre pregnancy and again recently, BUT I’d never quite tasted that 75kg.

Last week: failed it ❌
This week: GOT IT 😮‍💨🔥

And this one feels extra satisfying because I’m not even running a powerlifting specific programme right now. The focus has been hypertrophy, getting leaner and keeping hold of my strength along the way.

The pause off the chest needs some work 😅 but I’m absolutely buzzing with this one.

75kg. Finallyyyyy 🤝🏻Big thanks to .sjames and .legion_ox for the spots 🙌🏻 and to my coach for all the support… even if I may have pushed the boundaries of the programme for this one 😂👀

Very grateful to have so much knowledge around me and such a solid team in my corner 🫶🏻💪🏻

People often ask me how I've managed to keep making progress over the years.

The truth is, I don't rely on motivation.

Training is my anchor.

Progress is simply a by-product of that.

When life feels calm, it's something that brings me joy.

When the storms of life hit, it's what keeps me steady.
When I feel broken, it's the place I start rebuilding.

When I'm in pain or injured, I adapt, because moving my body helps me heal in more ways than one.

When I feel lonely, the gym gives me connection.

When I'm overwhelmed, it gives me space to think.

When I'm happy, it gives me somewhere to channel that energy.

Somewhere along the way, it also changed how I see my body.

Confidence didn't come from looking a certain way. It came from years of proving to myself that my body is capable, resilient, and worthy of being looked after.

I won't pretend I don't enjoy the physical changes.
I do.

I love feeling strong. I love building muscle. I love feeling confident in my own skin... especially after spending so many years not feeling that way.

But the body I've built is just the visible part.

The real transformation has been the relationship I've built with myself every time I've chosen to come back to my anchor.

Maybe that's what we should be chasing.

Not the perfect body...But a relationship with movement that's strong enough to carry us through every season of life.

Wow. Proud is an understatement.

Yesterday, all three of my lifters stepped onto the platform and absolutely delivered. Between them they achieved huge competition PBs, including two incredible 150kg deadlifts from Ailsa and Helen, and a massive 230kg deadlift from Ben.

For Ben and Ailsa, this was their second competition. Both walked away stronger than last time with bigger totals and more experience under their belts. For Helen, it was her very first competition, and she rose to the occasion brilliantly.

What makes me even prouder is that these numbers are only a small part of the story. Standing on a platform in front of a crowd, trusting your training, managing nerves and putting yourself out there takes courage. Every single lifter did themselves proud.

The members of our Barbell Club Maddie and Alex were incredible too. Maddie hit her goal of a 100kg deadlift after only starting powerlifting a few weeks ago, which was amazing to witness.

A huge thank you to Luke and Albert from Warrior Legion for organising such a great day, and to all the spotters and loaders who grafted from start to finish to keep everything running smoothly. These competitions simply don't happen without the people behind the scenes.

Days like yesterday remind me why I love this sport so much. The strength is impressive, but it's the confidence, resilience, friendships and personal growth that make it special.

Well done everyone. Now enjoy the well earned rest before we do it all again 💪🏻🔥

If I’m honest, I don’t love how I look every day. But when I interrupt the negative thoughts and take stock - I feel pride for where I am now and how my body has served me through different phases of life.

There was a time where how I FELT I looked that day would dictate what I wore, whether I trained, whether I took photos, and honestly sometimes even my mood.

But acting out of fear only keeps us stuck and limits growth.

It’s by challenging those thoughts, removing the judgement, and asking:
“What serves my best self today?”
where the magic really happens.

Practise interupting your thoughts when you start to spiral and check the facts...this can look like

Am I actually unhappy with my progress?
Or am I bloated, stressed, hormonal, holding water, tired, comparing myself to old photos/someone else, or just having a bad body image day?

Then I try to reframe the thought.

Instead of:
“I hate how I look.”

Try:
• “My body doesn’t look the same every day and that’s normal.”
• “I’m looking after myself.”
• “My body is strong.”
• Or even just replacing the negative thought with something neutral instead.

And really, shifting the focus away from how our body LOOKS and onto what it can DO changes everything long term.

Focusing on:
• strength
• energy
• performance
• fuelling yourself properly
• moving your body
• feeling healthier and more confident

is far more motivating than constantly criticising yourself.

Because when exercise and nutrition come from punishment or self hatred, motivation rarely lasts.

But when they come from wanting to feel GOOD physically and mentally, consistency becomes easier. And usually, that’s when the body goals follow too.

If you want to be a part of a supportive community to build a stronger, more confident you, then
