💭 PRESSURE IS A PRIVILEGE 💭

Whether it's external or self-inflicted pressure, it probably means you are doing something right.

You are stepping out of your comfort zone. Challenging yourself and growing.

In Bilbao, we backed ourselves to win the relay. We backed ourselves to go under 60 minutes. It brought pressure but focused the mind.

This weekend on Saturday, I'm fully focused on a PB. It's my first and last solo race of the season, and I've put all my eggs in one basket. It has been a progressive season of intensity as I've raced mixed doubles, men's open doubles before hitting back to back pro doubles earlier this year.

Since I began my Hyrox journey in January 2022, sub 65 has been my goal. I'm yet to achieve it, but I never gave up. I've just worked on my weaknesses.

It was Stockholm in December 2024, when I achieved my PB of 66:50. At 08:50am on Saturday, it's time to write a new chapter 📝

You have the ability each day to create your own story.

Today marks the start of a new story for me that I wanted to share.

I'm officially starting as Fitness Manager at Covent Garden.

5 years ago, I took on my dream job as Fitness Manager of my home club, Bloomsbury. It was my first job in management, and we achieved what was previously considered impossible. Within those two years, I ran the region of London as the Fitness Lead working with all clubs, including Covent Garden. Little did I know it would become my second home.

The role of a Fitness Manager is a single site. No one within Nuffield manages two sites. Until today that is.

I'm so excited to be approached for this opportunity. Covent Garden is currently one of the lowest performing sites in the UK. It's time to build a team, craft a culture, and deliver success. The blueprint laid at Bloomsbury is travelling a short 15 minute walk around the corner.

They asked if I could do it on a cold, windy night in Stoke. Pep never took this opportunity to walk into a lowly performing club. It's time to show everyone I can 👊🏼

💭 IT DOESN'T GET EASIER. YOU JUST GET STRONGER 💭

❌️ MISTAKE - I went into my first Hyrox thinking that being light and fast would = speed.

✅️ LESSON - Strength has huge carry over.

I now focus my training on running and strength work. If you are a better runner and stronger athlete then when you are in a fatigued setting, you can still perform.

I will still complete conditioning sessions, but the main 80% of my training is focusing on the above.

Two weeks out until I step back on that solo track. My last PB was in December 2024 but I have only raced once since then over a year ago. The goal is to break 65 minutes, and I know I'll be ready for it 👊🏼

DAY 1️⃣ or ONE DAY?

Everyone successful, once performed their craft for the first time.

So many of us are afraid to even start. What if you didn't know how great you could be? What if the experience you gained along the way changed your life for the better.

At 18, when I ran the BUPA 10k in London (my first ever road race) I had only started outdoor running a few weeks prior.

This teenager didn't know he would run marathons, compete in Hyrox around Europe, and work managing multiple sites of personal trainers.

To build a craft in anything requires repetitions. I truly believe you can become great at anything if you invest enough time through purposeful practice.

🗣 "You are so naturally good at running." A comment I hear so often. I didn't hear that when I was 14, leaning against the goalpost because I was too lazy and unathletic to play outfield.

Just remember, we often see the finished article online.

💭 MONDAY MOTIVATION 💭

TO BECOME GREAT YOU MUST FIRSTLY REALISE YOU ARE YET TO REACH THE PEAK ⛰️

You must also truly believe you can become great ✨️

Bilbao was my 29th and 30th race in the sport, but incredibly I have yet to race in a solo competition this season, having completed 6 races.

In London in 7 weeks' time that all changes. It will be close to a year since I stepped into a solo arena on the same course in Olympia.

That day, I was looking to back up my sub 70 rather than chase a PB. This time, I'm going to war.

I've wanted to break 65 minutes since 2022. This is 4 years in the making, and I know it's time.

I have 4 weeks of sharpening the tools in London before a week training camp on my own in Lanzarote all prior to the race.

It's easy to become down when we miss our goals at the first attempt, but would it really feel as hard earned if we didn't suffer a little?

30 races, 5 seasons in the sport, and 4 years of showing up daily in the pursuit of perfection.

It's not 7 weeks of graft coming up. It's the final 3% of time in this 215 week block 👊🏼

💪🏼 BUILD STRENGTH

If the stations in Hyrox take everything from you, of course, the runs are then going to feel tough. Build a foundation of strength:

💥 Squat
💥 Lunge
💥 Deadlift
💥 Row

2 x strength sessions per week. Either upper & lower or full body.

🏃‍♂️ RUNNING

Train like a runner. A few WODS with 300m runs or only running in a Hyrox class isn't going to prepare you for the day. Long easy runs, tempo runs, and interval runs will leave you coasting around the course on the day.

I personally feel 2-3 runs a week is manageable for the everyday athlete.

❤️ CONDITIONING

Non running cardio is a great way to save your body from the impact. Once a week I enjoy using ergs and adding in some of the Hyrox movements for specificity. 30 minutes to an hour of output works well here.

🐘 THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM

Very little compromised running. Combining the two (running into stations) will only impact performance on both.

Focus your time and energy on getting stronger 💪🏼 and getting faster 🏃‍♂️. You might just find that compromised becomes a word of the past.

On this Monday, just remember that if you are struggling with motivation, we can MAKE things happen for us.

💭 DOUBLES PRO MANCHESTER 💭

4 years ago, I travelled back from Manchester after my first Hyrox race and felt dejected. Hyrox was such a challenge and a puzzle to solve.

After travelling to Spain, Germany, Austria, Sweden, and Italy in search of the answer, 28 races later, I feel I've found it.

I was always scared of the pro race, but as we know, we grow when we step outside of our comfort zone. Yesterday was just that, but in reality, I didn't feel out of my zone. I felt in such a flow and in complete control.

Does our mind hold us back from our full potential? Our bodies can achieve so much more than we realise.

To achieve greatness, we must first believe we can be great. Yesterday was the performance I needed. I finally feel like an athlete who can mix with the best in the sport. I might not have the times that compare, but if I don't believe it, I'll never achieve it.

Once again, it was a privilege to race alongside my OG in the sport . We will be back to break 60 and get close to 55, which we know is achievable.

Next stop....Bilbao and the pro doubles with . I might not improve much physically in two weeks, but my mindset has shifted. That alone can be the difference.

💭 LEAVE WITH THE FEELING YOU WANT MORE 💭

In the lead up to a race, you want to refuel your tank while keeping the intensity there so your body remembers how to perform.

My last session today with Manchester on Friday did just that:

400m @ 4:45/km
600m @ 3:45/km (race pace)

4 rounds. 4km = 16:45 📦✅️

On the 4th round, I considered adding a 5th as I knew I had more - exactly the feeling I wanted.

Before a race, remember the basics:

❤️ Intensity remains
🏃‍♂️ Volume reduction
💤 Prioritise sleep
💦 Keep hydrated
🧘‍♂️ Focus on recovery/relaxation

Here's one of my biggest training mistakes 👇🏽

In a world where everything is accessible at the click of a finger, we might also find ourselves expecting instant training results.

I thought I would crush my first Hyrox in Manchester 2022 as I was a strong runner. Just like any movement in a gym and with any sport - it must be learnt. Fast forward 4 years, and I'm back this Friday where it all began, but this time in the Pro Doubles with

When I look at these two photos, the biggest change I see is mindset. So many will join a gym to change their bodies, but it's often our minds that will get the biggest result 🧠
