During the Summer of 2012, a group of aspiring softball players attended the Greater London Softball Mixed League (GLSML) Development Nights in Regents Park, expertly coached by Phil Candice and Nick Barnett. During the 11 week course, they learned the ins and outs of slow pitch softball, as well as enjoying the alcoholic delights on offer at the Crown and Goose pub in Camden afterwards. As the we
eks went by, bonds began to form and talk of forming a team emerged. By the end of the 11 week course, the Base Invaders had been born and the world took a step back. The team has gone through some changes since it's inception in 2013. however the core of the original team still remains with the ethos still very much in tact. Within the first season, 2013, the Base Invaders finished 2nd and earned promotion from Div 6 to Div 5. A massive accomplishment when you consider the majority of the team had never picked up a bat before . In 2014 , after picking some new recruits, the Base invaders built upon their success with not only their first tournament win, GLSML First Ball Win (Blue Grade), but also by winning the Publishers Tournament. This included 3 wins over their Div 6 rivals the Canary Cubs
The 2015 season started off where 2014 ended. Winning the Windsor First Ball shield and finishing 3rd in the Prague Heavy Hitters tournament, a tournament comprised of mostly American teams. Having moved up a grade in the GLSML tournaments the Base Invaders finished 3rd and 2nd in first and last ball. Having lost to the Base Jumpers and then the Fuzzy Ducks. However revenge would be served against the Base Jumpers as The Base Invaders went on to beat them twice during the regular season to win Division 4 and get promoted to Majors 3. With the 2016 season just around the corner and new player recruited, we wait with anticipated breathe. Do the Base Invader have what it takes to win Division 3 or just be able to stay up. Only time will tell.
