From Team Scotland/GB to Japan, From one proud coach to another as Nicholas officially turns pro 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇯🇵🇬🇧

What a journey this has been.

From representing Team Scotland and Team GB time and time again, to stepping onto the dohyo in Japan — every sacrifice, setback and mile travelled has led to this moment. I couldn’t be prouder.

Being his first sumo coach and mentor has been a genuine honour. To have played a part in this path means everything to me.

He is only the Second Brit since 1989 to reach this level — history in itself.

And to be the only British coach in the modern era and the last near 40 years to guide a student all the way to becoming a professional rikishi in Japan… that’s something I take huge pride in.

His shikona name EISEI which consists of 2 kanji characters 栄誠 and can be interpreted as Glory and Integrity.

I also want to acknowledge the important transition that comes with this moment — the passing of guidance from me to his new oyakata following his successful exam. Having built a strong connection with his oyakata, I know he is now in very good hands. That relationship will remain strong, and I will continue to support from as Nicholas begins this next chapter in Japan, learning, adapting, and growing under his stable’s leadership.

A massive thank you as well to the hard work, support, and dedication of his dad and one of my closest friends in this world, Georgi Zilkin — or as I call him, “Big Ivan”. Your role in this journey has been immense, We did it my brother.

Thankyou to everyone who played a part in this journey.

But more than anything — Nicholas earned this. I’ve seen the work, the discipline, the mindset. He is a Different level.

This isn’t just a milestone — it’s legacy in motion.

Congratulations our Nicholas. We know you’ll do us and your family proud.

Now it’s time to become the legend we all know you can be.
