July 2014. A 7 month old and buggy in tow, an ante and post natal fitness instructor qualification under my belt and a recently acquired Buggyfit license, I set out to do some outdoor classes with local Mums, NCT pals, and mates. A side earner at the time whilst on mat leave from a media sales job. The intention being to impart my learnings and enthusiasm for fitness on others, get a bit of fresh air, work out, have a bit of a laugh, and make a bit of extra money.

Who would have thought that it would have sparked such a fire in me that it would turn around my life completely, as much as becoming a Mum did. That I would eventually give up my job in the city to launch my own fitness business for Mums, become a personal trainer, exercise to music instructor, Pound Pro, Body Balance and ante/post natal Pilates instructor, online Zumba instructor during lockdown, Boxercise instructor, women's health & fitness writer, a specialist in pre to post natal and peri to menopausal women with my very own in-person classes and online fitness plans, creating unique workouts for Mums with families.

That day in the first picture was a sunny beautiful day, I was so nervous as it was my first ever class, but ultimately I felt excited. I'm so grateful for where that initial buzz has taken me. I am so grateful for the confidence I regained in myself, the steadfast friends I've made, the amazing, beautiful, kind, supportive women and gorgeous babies and children I've met along the way, for the smiles, the laughter, for the lessons, the challenges, and the successes. And the fact I still feel that buzz before and after each and every class and client session. It has been such a journey and I'm always excited to see where the next step will lead me. Watch this space for what comes next.

ROCK N STROLL starts back next Monday! 💜
A Mum and Baby/Tot Fitness Class for all postpartum stages and abilities.🤱🏼💪🏼
Mondays 10am at The Centre Wallington SM6.
These classes have been running for nearly ten years now and it is always so heartwarming to hear about how much Rock n Stroll classes have meant to members during their time with their babies. 🥹🫶🏼
Hopefully the video answers many questions you may have but here are a few things to expect from Monday's Rock n Stroll:

A massive shout out to all the Mums who are pregnant, giving birth and having a newborn in this heat. It's not easy!
Elsie arrived 8 years ago during another record breaking heatwave.
Prior to her, I had given birth right before Christmas during a massive winter storm which took out all the power on our street for a week, so polar opposite but here we are... another challenge to overcome.
The heat felt unbearable at times and she cried and wanted to be picked up a lot. I was scared she would overheat and I wasn't producing enough liquid to keep her hydrated. So I drank A LOT of water, ate loads of fruit, and kept her in the shade or indoors as much as I could.
Here are some other things I learned which I wanted to share and hope they help...

Firstly, newborns cannot regulate their temperature on their own so unfortunately it's up to us to make sure they don't overheat.

Keep them hydrated by offering the breast or bottle more often, and don't forget that babies under 6 months can't have water.
Check for wet nappies, they should have 5-6 in 24 hours.

Keep the pram dark but don't cover it completely, they need ventilation. Invest in a parasol or ventilated shade which attaches.
Stay out of the sun and stay indoors between 11am-3pm which are the peak heat hours.

Keep their nursery cool, it should be 15-20 degrees ideally.
Close the blinds and curtains during the day with a fan on or windows open if you don't have air conditioning.

Don't point a fan directly at them as this may dehydrate them. Let them sleep in just a nappy, remove bedding, and don't swaddle if it's too hot.

If they do feel like their overheating, give them lukewarm baths to quickly lower their temperature.
Avoid cold water as this will shock their system.

The best way to check if they're overheating is to check their chest or back of neck.
If they feel hot, damp and clammy they will need cooling down.

Hope these tips help. I miss her being so little, it goes by so fast. My biggest tip of all is to enjoy this precious time 💞

💚Wednesdays Evening Women's Fitness 7:45pm The Centre Wallington - Boxercise (impact, non-impact boxing group workout and circuits) and Pound (dynamic exercise class using drumsticks to hit to the beat)
🩷Thursday's Buggy Walk + Tone
/ Indoors Yoga Barre 10:45am - Beddington Park/ Lauren's home - walk or run around the park followed by toning exercises using the buggies for support. Indoor Yoga Barre flow on rainy days at Lauren's house.
🩵Fridays Outdoor Fitness 10:45am Oaks Park enclosure - group workout in the park for Mum's with babies up to preschoolers able to join in or run about, followed by cuppa in the cafe.

Term starts 1st June.

Pound has been going for over a decade now, created by two women who were recreational drummers and former athletes who relied on pilates to keep their bodies aligned, symmetrical and lean, but were bored with routine and were looking for something to reignite the fun in exercise. It wasn't until they were forced to drum without a stool and squat over a drum kit that they saw a new, fun and effective way of working out. 🥁
I have been teaching this class for almost ten years now, and I haven't looked back once. It has forced me to hold positions I didn't think I was capable of, given definition in my legs and core more than any other class, and well let's just say the drumming and strikes are pretty bloody cathartic!! 🥁
I'm proud to say this class was my first class to go live in person, whilst livestreaming online, and it's now also on demand for people to do it in their own time. I love that I'm offering something that ticks that flexibility box for Mums, and let's face it Mums do rock the hardest. 😆 🤟
The whole purpose of Mum Fit Wonder was to offer fun fitness solutions which would suit every Mum in their journey from pregnancy to Mums with teens. I want to give women every opportunity to fit fitness into their lives as I know how much it has helped me, both physically and mentally. I love how far things have evolved.
