Remember - carbs are not the enemy. The type and the amount is.

The evidence is that protein and fibre fill us alot more and keep us fuller for longer. Vegetables are carbohydrates because fibre is a carbohydrate.

Eat fibre.

Eat plant based proteins.

Above is an example of how you can do this.

This is likely to prevent sugar spikes. This also matters in people without diabetes who may be trying to achieve weight loss as a sugar spike is followed by a crash and this creates hunger cravings.

Eat a good, balanced and nutritious diet.

Also be aware that portion sizes are important to understand.

To be able to manage diabetes, it is important to understand it.

Personally, I believe it is important that everyone understands it - to remove the stigma.

Type 1 - autoimmune (nothing to do with lifestyle)

Type 2 - MAY be associated with lifestyle, however there are alot of other factors which causes Type 2 and it is important to remove the stigma around this.

All types of diabetes are very complex and very individual. Hormones, stress, sleep deprivation, other medications and multiple other factors can affect blood sugars massively.

What works for you might not work for someone else.

Diabetes education is important. Support those with diabetes 💙

GLP-1

Fantastic medications for Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity when used safely and appropriately.

They are not designed to eliminate healthier eating habits and physical activity.

Evidence suggests weight loss often comes from muscle mass loss making strength training with use of these medications vital. Loss of muscle mass causes other complications like fracture risks/weak bones/mobility issues. It also causes reduced metabolism which is problematic if the medication is stopped and habits have not changed - rapid weight gain.

Remember that use of these medications needs to be controlled and appropriate. They are not a magic wand or a magic fix, they are effective for what they are designed to do. Life long habit changes are still needed.

Small things can make a big difference.

Aim for consistency not perfection.

Remember that Diabetes is very individual. What works for you might not work for someone else. It is complex. It can be relentless.

Remove the stigma ❤️

Diabetes is no1s fault.

Some meals recently - including eating out ❤️

Eating like this has not always been a habit of mine, but the more you build it, the better you feel and the more you learn to enjoy a good variety of foods and feel nourished.

Why do we label people as boring if they want the healthiest option?!?! Eating rubbish makes me feel rubbish - and this is the case for alot of people.

By no means is my diet perfect, absolutely not, and that is NOT what I try and say either - nobody can be perfect but better choices over a long time can make a HUGE difference to your overall health and how you feel.

There is alot of evidence behind variety (colours) and lots of different nutritious whole foods and a healthier microbiome - the power house to our health.

Do it for your health, do it for your longevity.

Do it for how you feel ❤️

Experiment. Make food tasty. Season it.

FUEL your body with nutrition ❤️ your organs will thank you for it.

Idea taken from but tweaked

I swapped Greek yog ➡️ cottage cheese

Chocolate chips ➡️ Bournville buttons broken up

I had no baking powder in the cupboard so I used some wholewheat flour

Great quick and easy banana bread, tasty and mostly natural ingredients.

(3 eggs, 200g cottage cheese, 150g oats, 50g mixed seeds, 30g Bournville chocolate buttons, around 50g flour)

Home upper body, dumbbell only workout 🙌

As I always say - if you are not a gym member, that is fine. There is always something you can do, and that home workout is still important, and still matters just as much as anyone else's workout.

This dumbbell only workout includes shoulders, chest, back, triceps and biceps. Short and sweet.

Not every workout has to be your heaviest, strongest or best. Sometimes it is just about doing something👌

You matter. And your own workout journey matters.

Start, somewhere ❤️

After a very fulfilled weekend at my friends hen weekend with plenty of food and alcohol. Today I woke feeling tired and demotivated.

Only one way to stay consistent and that is by getting straight back to it - even if you dont feel like it, because motivation wont always be there, especially after a weekend like that!

Straight back to meal prep and an evening 5k run with

Start the week right and your more likely to make positive choices throughout the week 🙌

If you dont feel like it then tag a friend along for a walk/jog/joint plan with meal prep or joint challenges with friends. It makes it easier.

Something is always better than nothing.

Happy monday 💛

Hello June ⭐️

A new day. A new week. A new month.

A great time to set new goals and review your progress.

A little reminder that whatever you set out to do is important to you.

Just because Bob down the road can run 10k in 40 minutes does not make your walk less important.

Dont forget that social media often shows you the achievements the celebrations - not the hard work and reality behind it.

I have faced times of defeat in the last 18 months rehabbing an injury, but do I give up - no❌️ Its not great and its unfortunate but I am lucky to wake up everyday and still have 2 legs that can get me round day to day.

And do I also push through injury? NO❌️

There is more to movement and exercise than a specific body image, pace or time. Think about how you feel in yourself.

Keep going and remember your worth. And if you dont know it, then find it, because we are all good at something ⭐️❤️
