By working on the deep architectural structure of the body, 'core stability' is achieved, and then maintained, through increasingly complex movement sequences. Specific problem-areas can be targeted by an exercise, but always in relation to the rest of one's body. Your body awareness is heightened by bringing together mind and body - Body Control Pilates literally teaches you to be in control of your body, allowing you to handle stress more effectively and achieve relaxation more easily. The Body Control Pilates Method can work for everyone, regardless of fitness level! Exercises can be mat or machine-based, but matwork exercises have a great attraction in that they need no special equipment, and are particularly safe for those with back problems (and don't forget that 95% of the UK population has, or has had, backache). To guarantee your place in a weekly class I suggest that you prebook and pay half termly in advance. Payment is due by the first day of term. To be fair to all clients I regret that I cannot hold your space if payment is not received by this time. If you are unable to attend a class during this half term I offer the chance for you to take a catch up class subject to availability. At least 12 hours notice must be given. Catch up classes must be taken in the same block. They cannot be carried over to holiday periods or future blocks. It is the sole responsibility of the client to manage their catch-ups within the block. An unused catch-up class has no monetary value. For booked 1:1 sessions I appreciate that occasionally it is unavoidable to cancel a session but would ask that you provide 24 hours notice by text to 07940 231 338. A cancellation fee of 50% of the session cost is payable for sessions which are cancelled within this period. The "single leg stretch" logo is a registered trade mark owned by Body Control Pilates and is under licence.

Ameena was relatively new to Pilates when she joined me recently in Sicily. So it was great that she went away with a deeper experience of the method but more importantly, in my opinion, with a better awareness of her body and how to get the most out of movement in any situation, not just a Pilates or yoga class, using a truly individual and brain-based approach.

The best part of my job is helping people discover changes in their movement for the better. Shazia was nervous and protecting her back, understandably. The solution was not about prescribing a one-size-fits-all magic exercise, but rather allowing her brain to feel safe through the right sensory information.

In highlights what can happen when reformer Pilates becomes a trend, with studios popping up across London packing in rows of reformers, prioritising profit over precision.

Reformer Pilates is not new. My advice is to make sure you’re in the hands of an experienced teacher who explains how the reformer works, don’t do anything that doesn’t feel safe, and ultimately smaller is safer.

This is Helen, she’s 68 and does not let osteoporosis, a history of back pain and fibromyalgia get in the way of her zest for life. It’s always nice to receive positive feedback from clients. But this 💕

A diagnosis of MND is life-changing for the person and those around them. Thomas and his wonderful wife Fiona are taking it all in their stride, supported by friends and family. They continuously tackle each hurdle that they come up against with energy and optimism. Despite the progression of MND, I find that each session Thomas gives it his all and we get a good result.

To know that the small part I play is making a difference is priceless. Thank you Thomas and for sharing
