On 7th August 23 golfers including 5 guests attended Bedale Golf Club for Lyndon Learoyd's President's Day. Started out a little wet and blustery but that did not deter some great scores. Numerous birdies and even an Eagle on the par 4 1st. Amost an ace on 16 by Iain Wharton.
The nearest pin prizes went to Gez Surman for the 9th, Iain Wharton on 12 and 16 each collecting a bottle of fine red wine.
The best guest was Tont Watson with an impressive 40 points of which 23 were scored on the back 9 alone. He also took home a bottle of nice wine.
Despite a hard thought battle between Mr Captain and big rival Iain Wharton where the latter made up a difference of 5 points heading into the back they found themselves tied heading onto to the 16th par 3 where both sunk 2 very good birdies however it was Mr Captain that kicked on from there scoring 5 points on the final 2 holes where Iain could only reply with 3 finishing with a very respectable 36 points to Mr Captain's impressive 40 points for the day.
However this was again to be close but no cigar as for the 3rd time this season was pipped at the post this time by our Treasurer Gez Surman with a fantastic 42 points taking home the bragging rights and The President's Cup.
We now turn our attentions to the Rose Bowl on Wednesday 4th September where the Captain and President will compete for The Rose Bowl in our only team event of the season. Guests very welcome.
£45 includes NP's. Bacon butty on arrival, golf and a 2 course meal at Shipley Golf Club.
Hope to see many of you there.
Happy golfing ⛳️ 🏌‍♂️⛳️🏌‍♂️

On June 5th 2024 19 avid golfers including 5 guests attended the wonderful Scarborough South Cliff Golf Club in the sunshine to compete for The Memorial Trophy currently held by Chris Woodcock. Despite blustery seaside conditions some good scores came in with put best guest score of 31 points by Dave.
Our nearest pins were won by guest Phil and Pete Robinson.
The wooden spoon was very tightly contested on a countback between Gez Surman and Mike "Jogger" Smith with the latter taking the spoils.
The 2 highest scores on the day day was 37 points with myself and Iain Wharton battling out. With a front 9 of 21 points and a back 9 of just 16 narrowly missing out on his 1st trophy of the season was myself Mr Captain. With a front 9 of 20 points and a back 9 of 17 points Mr Iain Wharton became victorious collecting the Memorial Trophy.
Our attention now turn to Captain's day on 3rd July to be held at Normanton Golf Club. There'll be plenty of on course prizes to be won along with a par 3 simulator competition before we tee off.
As always, price is £45 plus the simulator/2's fee of £5 which included bacon roll/tee n coffee, 18 holes of golf and a 2 course dinner.
Guests always welcome

Sorry it's been a while, after our 1st meet at Forest Park was postponed we headed to Howley Hall GC on 1st may to compete for The Sherwood Salver currently held by our President Lyndon Learoyd. 18 of us attended with 3 guests with nice weather on a very difficult course in which the scores were reflected.

8th John Walsh (GUEST)
14th Lyndon Learoyd
18th Roger Daws

Wooden spoon with 10 points was new member Richard Vause.
Best guest with 31 points John Walsh
The main Competition for the Sherwood Salver was very close indeed with 5 players separated by just point in the end.
With 30 points Captain Gordon Teale, Avtar Bahir, Ken Lawrence and Brent Brady.
Gordon Teale took the runner's up spot on course back with a better back 6 and Avtar/Ken separated on the back 3 for 3rd and 4th respectively.
But with 31 points and retaining his Sherwood Salver wad our President Lyndon Learoyd.
Our attention now turns to our next meet on 5/6/2024 at Scarborough South Cliffe to compete for The Memorial Trophy currently held by Chris Woodcock.

Easingwold Golf Club - October 4th.

A fantastic turnout saw 25 golfers including a highly handicapped Mr Secretary Gez Surman (playing with a broken wrist, not too many shots 😉) take on Easingwold Golf course in dry but blustery conditions on our final official meet of 2023. I think I speak for all that the course was fantastic and would definitely like to visit again in the near future. The scoring reflected on the conditions in most cases however there were some great scores from both members and multiple guests.
1st up the nearest pin on 13th where only ONE golfer managed to hit the green. That person was none other than 3 time wooden spoon winner Robert Light whom took away the sleeve of Tietlest Velocity balls.
Our best guest on the day with a respectable 32 points was Whitwood Golf Club PGA Pro Paul Bolton winning a bottle of Captain Morgan's spiced rum.
With a very good 37 points and one of my playing partners of the day, the runner up and deservedly so with some great golf was Iain Wharton of Skipton Golf Club. Iain took away a nice bottle of Merlot for his efforts
Finally, by no means least....... with a fantastic score of 39 points managing to keep his cool with his magic putter at times of certain doom, holed out many clutch putts to take home (at last) his 1st win the Pye Trophy.
Huge thanks to Gez for arranging another fantastic event, the members and their guests for making a cracking day.
Stay tuned for our end of season post and our fixtures for next season coming soon.
Thank you to all our followers, please spread the word and make this a bigger society and let's look forward to some more cracking days next year.

On Wednesday 6th September our penultimate meeting took us to Sandburn Hall in York to compete for The Rose Bowl in a team event of Captain VS President.
We couldn't have asked for better weather with a temperature of approx 30 degrees with very little wind we all had a fantastic day on what i felt was a wonderful course layout in fantastic condition.
With our highest attended meet so far this season with 7 guests it was 10 vs 10.
The wooden spoon was won by none other than Robert Light for the 3rd time this year.
Our best guest score came from my guest Mr Roger Daws with an outstanding 35 points.
Our runner up was Mr Neil Auty with none other than Mr Secretary himself Gez Surman with a "steady" 37 points.
Moving on to the main event it was Mr Captain that took the spoils with a team score of 304 with notable scores from Gez 37, Mr Captain 31 and Pete Robinson 31 against the 274 scored by Mr President's team.

We now move into our final official meeting of 2023 at Easingwold Golf Club on Wednesday 4th October meeting at 11.30 for tea/coffee and bacon sandwich.

Apologies for going AWOL for a few weeks, had a lot on but I'm back to it now.
Our 5th meeting on 2nd August had to be postponed due to course closure because of the great British weather 🌧️🌧️🌧️
We rescheduled for Wednesday 23rd of August where 17 golfers competed for the President's Cup on Presidents Day.
Good start to the day with good weather but still difficult conditions due to a tricky but fantastic course. A daunting 1st tee shot awaited the first group of Mr President Lyndon himself Lyndon Learoyd, Chris Woodcock and Jack Redhead with a short par 4 at only 210 yards to the center of the green but was hidden away behind the trees and over a canyon/revine. Would our 1st group take on the trees and go for it or would they layup to the fairway at 150 yards for an easy approach onto the green??? All 3 opted to layup with 2 brave golfers making it over the revine and one falling way short of safety.
Having a driver in my hand watching another 9 golfers go before I decided to layup myself with a hybrid hitting the center of the fairway before duffing my approach. A good par for Mr Denning finished the hole nicely. Mr Secretary Gez Surman hit some fine form over the next 2 holes scoring 8 points on the 1st 3 holes the handicap police were after him swiftly before making mistakes on the next 3 holes only making 2 points with a blob on 6. Gez returned to fine form on the back 9 chipping in finely from 30 yards for a birdie 3 and 4 more points. Would that be enough to carry him to victory??? Unfortunately not, some mistakes ultimately cost him glory blobbing the very next hole after becoming beached. Gez swiftly recovered to make 6 points over the next 3 holes but the daunting 18th par 3 cut celebrations short finish with a no return and a total of 34 points. Although 34 points weren't enough to retain the President's Cup, it was enough to take the runners up spot and a nice bottle of wine.
A fantastic shot from Mr Denning took the nearest pin on 18 finishing off 9 feet from the pin and tidying a nice par to finish the day on a respectable 30 points.
Other nearest pin winners were Pete Robinson's guest Joe on 4, Claudio, a guest of Rich on 8 & 12 respectively. Claudio also took the prize of best guest on 30 points.
The wooden spoon this time round after a 3-way count back on 24 points was taken home by guest Ken Lawrence.
Without further adieu, the winner of the President's Cup was won with 35 points (lowest winning score all season) Mr Neil Auty.
Congratulations to all prize winners and a huge thank you and well done to our President Lyndon Learoyd for providing all prizes and putting on a fantastic day.

Our next meet on not far away at all. Wednesday 6th September takes us to Sandburn Hall to compete in the Rose Bowl which is a team event of Captain VS President.
I hope we have a good turn out. Usual 1239 meet, bacon roll with tea/coffee, 18 holes and 2 course meal £45.
Formal jacket and tie for members, smart casual for guests.
Hope to see you all there
Mr Captain

Captain's Day at Normanton GC was a huge success enjoyed by all members and one guest. Difficult conditions saw some close scores, best guest Matty Roberton with 33 points.
Runner up Jamie George with 36 points
Winner of the Macriphone Cup with 40 points.
We also had the simulator available to us where we competed against each other in a par 3 competition where Gez Surman eventually won the fourball voucher with a magnificent 2.1ft from the pin on the Postage Stamp at Royal Troon.
We now head into presidents Day at Northcliffe (Shipley) on 2nd August.
