I’m calling myself out here.

Because apparently, I am a massive hypocrite.

The other day I was talking about skincare and said:

“Ah, it’s probably too late for me now. Too many wrinkles. What’s the point?”

And the person I was talking to looked at me like I’d just said the dumbest thing they’d ever heard and went:

“It’s never too late. You should know that.”

And yeah.

Annoyingly, they were right.

Because this is literally what I say to people about fitness all the time.

I get messages from people saying:

“I’m over 40, can I actually build muscle?”
“My knees hurt.”
“My hips are stiff.”
“I’ve left it too late.”
“I’ve eaten badly for years.”
“What’s the point starting now?”

And every time, I’m like:

Mate. Start now.

You’re not dead.

You’re just a bit rusty.

If your knees are sore, getting stronger can help.

If your hips are stiff, moving more can help.

If you’ve lost muscle, lifting weights can help.

If you’ve been out of fitness for years, doing something now will still make a difference.

It doesn’t have to be perfect.

It just has to be better than doing nothing and moaning that nothing is changing.

Which brings me back to my face.

Am I going to start a nightly skincare routine and suddenly look like Brad Pitt in five years?

Probably not.

Unless I take a little trip to Turkey and come back with a suspiciously tight forehead and a hairline from 2007.

Awww… those were the days.

But will looking after my skin now be better than doing absolutely nothing because I’ve decided it’s “too late”?

Obviously.

And fitness is exactly the same.

You don’t need to be young.

You don’t need to be pain-free.

You don’t need to have your life together.

You just need to stop using “it’s too late” as a lovely little excuse to avoid starting.

Because the best time to start was probably years ago.

The second-best time is tonight.

Right after I put this bloody moisturiser on.

Sometimes we get so obsessed with moving forward.

Next goal.
Next target.
Next bit of weight to lose.
Next PB.

Next “I’ll be happy when…”

And don’t get me wrong, having something to aim for is good.

But sometimes you need to stop being such a stubborn little goal-chasing goblin for five minutes and actually look back.

This was me walking through Sevilla.

I was just wandering about, probably sweating from places I didn’t know could sweat, and I happened to turn around by chance.

And I saw this.

The photo doesn’t really do it justice, but in that moment I thought:

“Bloody hell. If I hadn’t looked back, I’d have completely missed that.”

And it made me think about fitness.
Because so many people are constantly looking ahead at how far they’ve still got to go.

“I still need to lose another stone.”
“I’m still not as fit as I want to be.”
“I still struggle with food.”
“I still can’t do what I used to do.”

And yeah, maybe all of that is true.

But have you actually looked back recently?
Back to when walking up the stairs felt harder.
Back to when you had no routine at all.
Back to when you were knackered all the time.
Back to when you’d start, stop, feel guilty, then sack it off again.
Back to when you didn’t even believe you could be consistent.

Sometimes progress doesn’t feel impressive because you’re living it every day.
But if you pause for a second and look over your shoulder, you might realise you’ve moved a lot further away from that old version of yourself than you give yourself credit for.

So yes, keep moving forward.
But don’t forget to look back every now and then.

Not to go back.

Just to appreciate how far you’ve already come.

We’re bringing the same quality of coaching we give adults… to the youth.

If your child is aged 11–16 and they’d like to experience the benefits of strength training in a safe, supportive, properly coached environment, drop us a message to register your interest.

We’ve only got 12 spaces available.

This will be a paid 12-week coaching programme, running 3 times per week after school, from around 3:30pm to 4:15pm.

Full details, including cost, will be sent to anyone who registers their interest.

One of the nice little bonuses is that it gets them off their phone, off the Xbox, away from the endless scrolling, and doing something genuinely good for them.

But this isn’t about shaming kids for being on tech.
And it definitely isn’t some sort of Biggest Loser for children.

We’re not here to punish them.

We’re not here to beast them.

We’re not here to make them feel bad about their body, their fitness, their weight, or where they’re starting from.

This is about showing young people that exercise can actually feel good.

That training can help them feel stronger, more capable, more confident, and more comfortable in themselves.

And the best bit about strength training?

You don’t have to be “sporty” to benefit from it.

You don’t have to be the fastest, the most coordinated, or the most confident kid in the room.
You’re not trying to win a match or beat anyone else.

You’re just learning how to move well, build strength, improve fitness, and progress at your own pace.

Because exercise shouldn’t feel like punishment.

It shouldn’t only be linked to weight loss, embarrassment, or being told you’re not good enough.

It should be something that helps you feel better.

Stronger.
More capable.
More yourself.

So if you’re expecting your child to be shouted at, rinsed with burpees, and crawling out the door after every session… this probably isn’t for you.

We’re here to coach them properly.

To help them get stronger.
To help them enjoy training.
And to build a healthier relationship with exercise that lasts far beyond these 12 weeks.

Message us to register your interest.

One of the biggest reasons people don’t start is because they think…

“I won’t be able to find times that work for me.”

But honestly, that’s very rarely the case.

We currently have **44 training slots available** across the week.

Early mornings from **6am**.

Mid-morning sessions like **9:15–10:15**.

Lunchtime sessions for people working from the office who want to escape the desk and get into our nicely air-conditioned gym.

After-school run-friendly times.

Evening sessions after work.

And a couple of weekend sessions for those people whose weeks are absolute chaos.

The best bit?

You don’t have to stick to the same time every week.

You can chop and change depending on work, family stuff, social plans, travel, shift patterns, or whatever life decides to throw at you that week.

We’ve got shift workers who still train consistently.

We’ve got people who travel who still manage 2–3 sessions a week.

We’ve got busy parents, full-time workers, business owners, and people who genuinely thought they’d never find the time.

And yet, they do.

Because the diary is flexible enough to make it work.

So if “I won’t be able to find a time that suits me” has been one of the reasons you’ve not reached out yet, drop us a message.

There’s a very good chance we’ve got times that will work for you.

“It’s too expensive.”

I get it.

Small group PT costs more than a normal gym membership. No point pretending it doesn’t.

But the better question is this:

Are you actually getting value from the cheaper option?

Because paying £40-£60 a month for a gym you don’t use, don’t feel comfortable in, and don’t really know what to do with… isn’t great value.

It’s just cheaper.

And there’s a difference.

One of our old clients messaged recently after signing up somewhere else because financially, it was the most she could afford each month.

But she hated it.

She didn’t feel comfortable going.

And she asked if there was any way she could come back to us.

That doesn’t mean normal gyms are bad.

For some people, they work brilliantly.

If you’re confident, know what you’re doing, and can train consistently on your own, crack on. You probably don’t need us.

But that’s not where a lot of people are.

A lot of people need structure.

They need someone telling them what to do.

They need coaching so they know they’re doing it properly.

They need encouragement when they’re struggling.

They need an environment where they don’t feel awkward walking through the door.

That’s the bit you’re paying for.

We get messages from members saying they like the pace, the people, and the atmosphere.

That they feel a difference already.

That they’re grateful for the support and encouragement.

That the coaches have helped them get to grips with weights when they weren’t sure what they were doing.

That matters.

Because the hard part usually isn’t joining something.

It’s actually turning up.

And then turning up again.

So yes, we might cost more than a standard gym membership.

But if the cheaper option is something you dread, avoid, or don’t use…

Then how much is it really saving you?

Sometimes the better value option is the one that costs a bit more, but actually helps you keep going.

17/05/2026

Next week we introduce the new programme after a solid 16-week block.

And honestly?

There’s been some ridiculous progress.

Now, when people hear “strength training”, they probably picture the obvious stuff.

Someone pulling 160kg on the trap bar.

Someone else hitting 185kg.

Bench pressing 100kg.

Chin-ups flying around like we’re filming some sort of CrossFit documentary.

And yeah, we’ve had some of that.

Brilliant.

Love it.

But that’s not the whole story.

Not even close.

Because strength training isn’t just about the biggest number on the board.

It’s not just about who lifts the heaviest, who moves the fastest, or who looks the most impressive doing it.

Sometimes strength looks like someone getting off the floor by themselves for the first time in two years after serious hip surgery.

Sometimes strength looks like someone regaining sensation in their arm after surgery from cancer.

Sometimes strength looks like walking into the gym nervous, unsure, and convinced you’re “too unfit” to be there… then 16 weeks later realising you’re moving better, standing taller, hurting less, and actually starting to trust your body again.

That’s the stuff.

That’s why we do what we do.

Yes, we lift weights.

Yes, we push people.

Yes, we want you stronger.

But we’re not here to chuck you into some generic circuit and shout “three, two, one” until you’re lying in a puddle of your own regret.

We train the person in front of us.

Their body.

Their history.

Their injuries.

Their confidence.

Their goals.

Their life.

Because for one person, progress might be a 100kg bench press.

For someone else, it might be getting up off the floor without help.

And both deserve celebrating.

Both matter.

Both are strength.

So as we move into the next programme, that’s the focus.

Getting stronger, yes.

But stronger in a way that actually means something.

Stronger for your body.

Stronger for your life.

Stronger for whatever you need to be able to do next.

That’s the whole point.

What an absolute pleasure these two have been over the last six years.

Yeah… six years.

Liam joined me back end of 2019, just in time for the world to shut down a few months later. Sarah jumped in during COVID, starting out online like a lot of people did back then.

Safe to say… both stuck it out.

And the progress?

Liam started out knocking out about 7–8 press-ups (might be generous, to be honest). Now he’s benching 120kg. Not bad for someone who just “wanted to get a bit fitter.”

Sarah’s been the definition of consistent. Just quietly showing up, putting the work in, week after week, year after year. The kind of consistency most people talk about… but don’t actually do.

Both of them have been massive parts of the community here. Properly well-liked, always bringing good energy, and honestly… Fridays aren’t going to feel quite the same without them.

I’m also going to miss Sarah’s… we’ll call it “observations” (definitely not moaning… alright, maybe a bit of moaning) about her bosses and whatever chaos was going on at work that week. And of course, her reminding us all that Liam’s cooking skills start and end with beans on toast.

They’re off travelling for the next 9 months, exploring the world, doing life properly. And fair play, because there’s definitely more to life than just work, work, work.

I’ve got no doubt the strength and fitness they’ve built over the years will carry them through whatever they get up to next.

Genuinely going to miss you both.

Go enjoy it, you’ve earned it.
