Vitamin D ☀️ — let's talk about it.
We hear so much about vitamin D, particularly as we head into the colder months, but I don't think we always understand **how our bodies actually get it**.
The fascinating thing is that our skin can make vitamin D3 when it's exposed to the right UVB rays.
The problem?
For a large part of the UK autumn and winter, the sunlight simply isn't strong enough for us to reliably make the vitamin D we need through our skin.
Then there are other factors — skin tone, how much time we spend indoors, our diet and, for some people, how well nutrients are absorbed through the digestive system.
And this is something I really want to emphasise:
💊 **Oral vitamin D works very well for most people.**
An injection isn't automatically “better” just because it bypasses the gut. It's about choosing the right approach for the individual.
Vitamin D plays an important role in our **bones, muscle function and normal immune function**, but more isn't always better either.
High doses should be used appropriately.
So as we move out of summer and into those darker UK months, think about your vitamin D — but don't just blindly take huge doses.
☀️ Know your level.
🩸 Understand your risk.
💊 Supplement appropriately.
**Save this post for winter and share it with someone who always forgets their vitamin D.**
