We often get stuck before we’ve even started because we tell ourselves we’re too old, too young, or too experienced.
I still remember my assessment day at Hays years ago, when my 5-minute presentation was on “youth and energy vs experience and maturity.” It’s a debate that comes up constantly in recruitment — and the truth is, both sides are often judged unfairly depending on the role.
But here’s the reality: if you don’t put yourself out there, you’ll never know what’s possible. When your experience is presented clearly, confidently, and professionally, you give yourself every chance of being positively considered — regardless of age or stage.
This week was a perfect example.
John came to My Professional CV after being told by another CV writer that his application was “too difficult.” He needed a full CV built from scratch covering 50 years of experience, plus support submitting it through an online portal.
We completed everything within a day.
Four days later, he had already been selected for interview.
That’s why I’m writing this today over the bank holiday.
Too often, time off gets overshadowed by worry about things that aren’t actually problems yet.
But when you get the right support in place, you can switch off, breathe, and enjoy the things that matter — especially on a sunny day like today with family and friends. 🌞
