Maybe instead of continuing to turn a blind eye on how important water safety & swimming is those with influence will now start to take it seriously and recognise how crucial of a life skill swimming really is!

RLSS UK stands firmly behind the 18 families who have united to demand government action after losing loved ones to drowning.

Their powerful open letter to the Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, highlights the devastating and lasting impact of drowning, while calling for meaningful action to prevent future tragedies.

They write: “We cannot bring back those we have lost. But, with your help, we can prevent more lives from being lost and more families from experiencing this heartbreak. Please meet with us and help turn words into action."

RLSS UK has also written to the Prime Minister, calling on him to appoint a dedicated Minister for Water Safety and Drowning Prevention, providing leadership across Government on this preventable public health issue. A coordinated government approach is needed to implement the policies that will enable everyone to enjoy water safely and reduce the number of lives lost to drowning.

🌟WE NEED YOUR HELP🌟🏊‍♀️💙 HELP US BUILD A HOME FOR SHOLFINS SWIM SCHOOL 💙🏊‍♀️
We’re Sholfins Swim School CIC, a small community swim school based in Redditch. For the past 5 years, we’ve provided affordable swimming lessons for local children, including children with SEND and additional needs.

Sadly, we’ve recently had to temporarily close after losing access to the pool we used, leaving the future of our swim school uncertain.

But we don’t want to give up. ❤️

We’ve launched a fundraising campaign to help us create a permanent home for Sholfins — a dedicated space where local children can learn to swim, develop confidence and learn vital water-safety skills.

There’s also some amazing news… 🥹🏆

We are finalists in the BBC Make a Difference Awards, recognising the difference Sholfins has made in our community. We’ll find out on 14th September whether we’ve won!

Now we’re asking our local community to help us keep Sholfins going.

🙏 If you can donate, every penny will help.
📲 If you can’t donate, please share this post — reaching the right person or business could make all the difference.

💙 SAVE LIVES FOR SAM — WATER SAFETY CAN SAVE LIVES 💙

This article from the Daily Mirror makes for incredibly difficult reading, but it is a conversation we cannot afford to shy away from.

The Save Lives for Sam campaign is calling for greater action to prevent children drowning, including stronger water safety education and ensuring children are taught the skills they need to survive if they find themselves in difficulty in the water. Tragically, 33 children drown in England every year.

As a swim school, we see first-hand that swimming lessons are about so much more than learning different strokes or swimming a certain distance.

They are about confidence. Independence. Awareness. And, ultimately, safety.

Every child should have the opportunity to learn how to swim and, just as importantly, understand what to do if something goes wrong.

We believe water safety education should start early and continue throughout childhood. Children need to understand that swimming in a pool with a teacher is very different from being near a river, lake, canal or the sea. They need to know about cold water shock, currents, safe places to swim, the Water Safety Code, and what to do if they or someone else gets into trouble.

And we wholeheartedly support the call for children to receive this vital education before the summer holidays, when so many families head to the water.

As teachers, parents and members of our communities, we all have a part to play.

💙 Teach them to swim.
💙 Teach them to respect the water.
💙 Teach them what to do in an emergency.
💙 Have the conversation.

Because every child deserves the chance to enjoy the water safely — and every parent deserves to know their child has the skills and knowledge that could one day save their life.

Please take a few minutes to read the article and share it. The more people who understand the importance of water safety, the more lives we have the potential to save.

Save Lives for Sam. 💙

The last heatwave saw a terrifying 19 deaths in just one week as children died in water-related tragedies. Now we are calling for action along with leading UK charities, bereaved parents and Olympic champions
