Peri menopause hit me like a truck.
The funny thing is when I first posted this picture. I didn’t know that’s what it was.
I was being treated for depression and anxiety. And every time I asked for more or different help I was just offered different pills to take.
I was misdiagnosed for almost 5 years before I was listened to and treated accordingly
1 in 6 women having suicidal thoughts during peri-menopause.
The sharp declines in oestrogen and testosterone affect brain chemistry and therefore emotional stability.
For me the huge sleep disturbances and the anxiety played a huge part in this.
there were multiple times I didn’t know how I would carry on. I thought I was a burden on my family and friends.
My marriage suffered. My work suffered. My son suffered. I suffered.
I’m not a mental health expert.
But the work I do with my clients comes from a deep desire to make sure that women know they do have some control. There are things they can do.
I teach them how to advocate for themselves.
How to feel better in their bodies when it feels like it’s betraying them.
How to move and eat in a way that supports them.
How to be their own cheerleader.
And to show them there is someone in their corner.
I hate that so many women suffer through this time in their lives. Because I know, I’m proof that it can be the best time. With the right support and the right tools.
Don’t suffer in silence
