You can almost feel the excitement jumping out of this message!

This is why I always remind parents that sleep isn't a race. Progress isn't measured by perfection; it's measured by the small wins that gradually build confidence, trust and new skills over time.

This little one wasn't left to "just get on with it." She was given the space to roll, play, regulate and settle at her own pace, with support when needed. And mum was given the confidence to step back and observe what her baby was capable of.

Did it happen overnight?

No.

It took consistency, patience and perseverance. It took trusting the process, even on the days when it felt like nothing was changing.

Sleep support is rarely about quick fixes. It's about making small, manageable changes that work for your child, your family and your pace.

And when those breakthrough moments come? They feel pretty amazing. ✨

Remember: small wins count. Tiny steps forward still move you forward.

If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where to start, send me a message.

I'd love to support you and your family on your sleep journey. 💚

Melatonin is often called the "sleep hormone", but it doesn't actually send your child to sleep.

Instead, it's the body's way of signalling that it's time to start winding down for the night.

One thing many parents don't realise is that melatonin production starts long before bedtime. Morning daylight, time spent outdoors, regular routines and a calm evening environment all help support your child's natural sleep rhythms.

This is one of the reasons I'm always talking about sleep as a 24-hour process with my families. What happens during the day can have a big impact on how sleep unfolds at night.

If bedtime has been feeling like a battle lately, it can be worth looking at the whole day rather than focusing solely on the bedtime routine.

Sleep isn't just about what happens at night - it's about supporting your child's body clock throughout the day. 🌙

Sunday can feel like the day we reflect on everything that didn't go to plan the previous week.

Maybe sleep was a little messier than usual. Maybe routines slipped. Maybe your child needed more support than normal.

But sleep isn't built on one day, one nap, or even one week.

Children's sleep naturally fluctuates as they grow, learn, develop and experience the world around them.

What matters most is the overall picture, not chasing perfection.

So before a new week begins, give yourself some credit.

You showed up.
You responded.
You comforted.
You kept going.

That's what your child will remember. 💚

One of the most powerful things you can do to support your child's sleep doesn't cost a penny...

Get outside. 🌿

Natural daylight helps regulate your child's circadian rhythm (their internal body clock), which plays a huge role in helping them feel awake during the day and sleepy at night. Morning light is especially important as it helps send clear signals to the brain about when the day starts and when sleep should come later.

Outdoor time also encourages movement, exploration and sensory experiences, all of which support healthy development and can help children feel more settled and regulated. Time in nature has been linked to improved mood, attention and emotional wellbeing too.

And the best part?

It doesn't have to be sunny.

Cloudy days still provide significantly more natural light than most indoor environments, meaning your child's brain and body are still benefiting from those important daylight cues.

So whether it's a walk around the block, puddle jumping in the rain, a trip to the park, or just eating a snack outside, it all counts.

Fresh air. Natural light. Movement.

Sometimes the simplest things can make the biggest difference to sleep. 💚

A common thing I hear from parents is:

"They're not tired, they're just lying there playing and kicking their legs around!"

But sleep isn't always a case of closing our eyes and drifting off immediately.

Many babies spend time wriggling, kicking their legs, rubbing their face, turning their head from side to side, playing with their fingers or quietly babbling before sleep arrives.

These movements can be part of how babies regulate their nervous system and transition from being awake to being asleep.

As adults, we often unwind by reading a book, watching TV or scrolling our phones. ( Even when we know we shouldn't! ).

Babies don't have those options, so movement is often part of their wind-down process.

This is why I encourage parents to pause and observe before stepping in too quickly.

If your baby is content, calm and simply moving around in their cot, they may be doing exactly what they need to do.

Of course, if your baby is distressed, upset or calling for you, that's different.

But a baby who is happily wriggling and exploring their sleep space may be practising an important skill: learning how their body feels as it prepares for sleep.

Sometimes the wriggles aren't a sign that sleep is miles away.

Sometimes they're part of the journey there.

Have you ever watched your baby happily kick around for a while and then suddenly drift off to sleep? 👇

Our house has been hit with a sickness bug, and honestly, sleep has been all over the place. 🤢

For the past week, we've had children in different beds, middle-of-the-night wake-ups, extra cuddles, and routines that have completely gone out of the window. Just as one person starts feeling better, someone else comes down with it!

If you're going through the same thing, please know it's completely normal for sleep to take a back seat when children are unwell. They often need more comfort, reassurance, and flexibility, and that's okay.

This isn't the time to worry about habits or routines. Focus on getting everyone rested, hydrated, and feeling better. Sleep can always be gently brought back on track once the bug has passed.

If your house feels like a revolving door of illness right now, you're definitely not alone. 💚

And if you're finding that sleep doesn't seem to return to normal once everyone is well again, then drop me a message if you'd like to chat about your child's sleep. I'm here to listen 🤝

As parents, it's so easy to feel like we need to get everything right.

The perfect bedtime.
The perfect nap.
The perfect routine.

But children don't need perfect parents.

They need parents who show up, who respond, who learn, who adapt, and who keep going even when they're tired themselves, consistently.

When it comes to sleep, consistency is important, but perfection isn't.

Life happens. Naps get missed. Bedtimes run late. Plans change.

What matters most is the overall picture and the support your child receives along the way.

So if today hasn't gone quite how you hoped, take a breath and give yourself some credit.

Parenting was never meant to be perfect.

You've got this. 💚

A 5-hour stretch might not sound life-changing to everyone... but when you've been running on broken sleep, it absolutely is. 💚

One of my favourite parts of being a sleep coach isn't just helping children sleep better - it's seeing parents start to feel like themselves again.

Sleep isn't just about bedtime. It's about having the energy to enjoy your family, think clearly, feel more patient, and make it through the day without running on empty.

Every family's journey looks different, and progress isn't always linear, but celebrating the little wins along the way is so important.

✨ One longer stretch.
✨ One easier bedtime.
✨ One less wake-up.

They all add up.

And today, one very tired mum is feeling like a new woman and that's a big win. 🥰

✨ Friday Fact ✨

One of the reasons your child feels sleepy at bedtime is thanks to something called sleep pressure.

Throughout the day, a chemical called adenosine gradually builds up in the brain. The longer your child has been awake, the more sleep pressure builds, helping their body prepare for sleep.

But sleep isn't just about being tired.

Things like emotions, illness, development, environment and your child's body clock can all play a role in how easily they fall asleep and stay asleep.

That's why some days sleep feels straightforward, and other days it can feel much more challenging. 🫣

Understanding what's happening behind the scenes can help us approach sleep with a little more patience and a lot less pressure.

On a Friday I'm going to try and do, ' Friday Facts', what is something you'd like to know more about? Let me know below or send me a message. 💚

One of the biggest misconceptions about sleep coaching is that it's all about wake windows, routines and sleep schedules.

Of course those things matter.

But honestly?

They're only a small part of what I do.

Most of my time is spent supporting parents.

Listening to their worries.

Helping them understand what's happening.

Reassuring them when they're questioning themselves.

Giving them the confidence to move forward with something that feels right for their family.

Because when parents feel supported, informed and confident, sleep often becomes much easier to navigate.

That's why my approach has never been about handing over a plan and walking away.

It's about walking alongside you.

That's the part of sleep coaching that often goes unseen. 💚
