Cup Final Review
A tough one to take as we fall 4–3 on penalties after a 1–1 draw against Eastbourne United U23s.
I’m incredibly proud of how the players conducted themselves on such a big occasion for the club, especially with a squad full of local talent. The lads were fully locked in from the start and delivered against what has been our strongest opponent all season. To match them across the pitch showed just how much we wanted to win this cup for each other.
An unfortunate moment in the box, with the ball bouncing around like a pinball machine, led to their opening goal. But the response was excellent - we settled, stayed composed, and grew back into the game.
Our hunger paid off when Teddy Wren, coming off a hat-trick the week before, slotted home confidently to bring us level. The celebrations with players and fans made that moment incredibly special.
The second half saw both teams largely cancel each other out. Then, in the dying moments, 16-year-old Finley Clarke produced a stunning save to take us to penalties.
Penalties can be cruel, but we have to reflect on the journey to get there and just how incredible the players were. This was against a side that consisted of County Prem players and Eastbourne United U18s who have dismantled teams all season.
Well done to everyone involved, it was an absolute pleasure to watch and I’m incredibly excited about where this team can go in the future.
A huge thank you as well to the supporters. The boys truly appreciated your backing. While it ended in heartbreak from the spot, it was a game to remember for its energy, camaraderie, and desire.
We’ll get it next time.
