Rhymney RFC 29 - 19 Machen RFC
Match report:
After nearly a month with limited training sessions and no matches, the boys took on Machen today at home. Following on from the seniors 73-12 win yesterday on the same pitch, the boys were hoping they would be able to replicate the same standard of rugby themselves.
The game started strongly with some wonderful moves on display from the backs resulting in 2 early tries for our speedster Mac.
After some great defensive work and some fantastic turnovers, Machen eventually started to get back into the contest picking up 2 tries in the process. Harri B was next to score for Rhymney with some outstanding footwork in the wide channel, dotting down in the corner. Just on the stroke of half time, another backs move paid off with Olly R breaking through the defensive line for a simple run in under the posts.
Machen came out firing in the second half, they began to show just what the Rhymney coaches had warned the players about, with some physical carries and good shape they managed to steal another try back. With limited time left of the game, and with Machen knocking on the door, a break away from deep again for our speed demon Mac resulted in a very well deserved hat trick try.
A very good all round performance from the young Brewers today, against a very strong and well structured Machen side, who deserve a lot of credit. After a number of their key players have left and are moving on, they really turned up and gave it their all, and we are grateful to them for contesting so fiercely against our boys, in what was a fantastic game to watch.
