We’ve all been there: You go 30 days without a single ‘bad’ carb. You feel like a superhero... until a stressful Tuesday hits.

One slice of office birthday cake later, and you’re telling yourself, ‘Well, I already blew it. I’ll just eat whatever I want for the rest of the week and ‘start over’ on Monday!’ Sounds familiar?

This is the All-or-Nothing Trap
When we banish foods:
1. Mental Fatigue: It takes massive willpower to say ‘no’ every single day.

2. The Pedestal Effect: That piece of cake becomes the most important thing in the world because it’s ‘off-limits’.

3. The Last Supper Mentality: When you finally eat the ‘forbidden’ food, you eat as much as possible because you’re planning to restrict it again tomorrow.

My coaching philosophy? We keep the carbs. We keep the cake. It’s not a daily thing and it’s occasional but it’s not forbidden!

When you give yourself unconditional permission to eat, the ‘trigger’ foods lose their ‘trigger’ status. You can have two bites and be done, because you know you can have it again another time if you decide to have it.

That is what food freedom actually looks like. 🕊️

The longer I live in the UK the more I notice this:

The way people live in France supports their health not through strict routines or extreme diets, but through how they move, eat, connect with their culture, and regularly pause.

Health isn’t simply about food that we need more of (such as protein, fibre and so on…) but it’s often about what we allow ourselves to do more of: RELAX!

Slow your meals
Walk more
Connect with people
Have moments of doing nothing in your day, not just at the weekend.

You don’t need a different life to feel better but you can adjust small things in how you live the one you already have.

What’s one thing you could slow down today?

Hack 5: Small evening tricks when you did everything right but you’re still craving food late at night

Even if you’ve eaten well all day, sometimes that 9pm urge still appears.

Sometimes having a few strategies up your sleeve can go a long way…

A palate reset
A small planned sweet after dinner
A kitchen-closing ritual
Even something as simple as hydration

These little nudges can make evenings feel much easier to forget about the biscuits and tea

Over the past few days I’ve shared 5 ways to reduce evening sugar cravings after you hit 40

If you’d like help applying this to your own routine, metabolism and hormones, I have some coaching space available.

DM me for details.
