A trip to Dagenham today for our TAFC O60 Blues Walking footballers resulted in them qualifying for the FA National Walking Cup Finals Day.
Unbeaten through 5 games against some excellent opposition meant the team now moves into St George’s Park on 18th October to be part of the top six teams in the country trying to win this national cup.
It was an excellent team performance, a special mention must go to Mike Hurn who was exceptional in goal. The results were as follows

Walking Football World Masters Cup – Wales 🇮🇪⚽🏴

What an incredible experience at the Walking Football World Masters Cup in Wales!

Representing Ireland for the first time, Sandra Donohoe was joined on the pitch by Tania Bushell, proudly representing England. With six games to play, there was plenty of excitement, determination and some fantastic walking football along the way.

And then came the final game — Ireland v England.

It was a tight and competitive match, with England eventually taking a 1–0 victory. But Ireland had a huge chance in the closing minutes when Sandra stepped up and struck a shot that could have levelled the game. It flew agonisingly close, missing the net by just a whisker!

The final whistle brought mixed emotions, but what a fantastic achievement to represent Ireland on the world stage for the very first time.

To make it even more special, England went on to win the tournament.

A brilliant tournament, a proud moment for Sandra, and a wonderful experience shared with Tania — two friends representing their countries and showing that football really does have no age limit!

Tonbridge Angels Ladies WF produced a thrilling attacking display to secure an impressive 6–3 victory over Crystal Palace Ladies.

From the first whistle, Tonbridge Angels showed their intent, playing with energy, confidence and plenty of attacking threat. They moved the ball quickly and put the Palace defence under pressure, creating chances and forcing mistakes.

The opening goal arrived after a bright spell of pressure, giving Tonbridge the perfect start. Palace responded and managed to find their way back into the game, but Tonbridge continued to play on the front foot and restored their advantage before adding another to take control of the match.

The second half turned into an entertaining goal-fest. Crystal Palace refused to give up and twice managed to find the net, keeping the pressure on Tonbridge. However, the Angels continued to attack with purpose and their quality in the final third proved decisive.

With six goals scored, Tonbridge’s attacking play was the highlight of the afternoon. Their movement off the ball, determination in possession and willingness to take chances created problems for Palace throughout the game.

Despite conceding three goals, Tonbridge showed great character to stay composed and continue pushing forward. The final whistle confirmed a memorable 6–3 victory, with the Angels thoroughly deserving the result after an entertaining and hard-fought contest.

A fantastic team performance, full of attacking football, determination and plenty of goals. The Angels can take huge confidence from a result that showcased their ability to compete, create chances and finish strongly.

The following weekend our Over 60s Blues team played in the same competition but for the higher age group. Our first game was against Whitstable and aside from a penalty which was missed, Whitstable barely got into the Angels half. However, an excellent performance by the opposition keeper and some poor finishing meant we started with a disappointing 0-0 draw. Our heads dropped as we came up against Woodnesborough in the second game and a sloppy mistake allowed them to gain a 1-0 win.

This was not part of our plan but looking at the league table we were fortunate that other results were going in our favour so we moved on to meet Canterbury Mariners knowing a win would get us back on track. A more positive attacking approach gave us goals from Kelvin Champion, Gary Humphrey and Graham Smith to secure an easy 3-0 win.

Next up were Maidstone who were flying high at the time but Gary Humphries scored early on and then a few minutes later added a second and the opposition lost heart. We controlled the remainder of the game with Mike Hurn having just one shot to save and it didn’t trouble him.

With the momentum now with us the last game was all important for three teams. If Tonbridge could win, they would win the tournament and anything other than that would most likely give our match opponents, Woodchurch, the trophy and progression to the next round. It was a very competitive match but the Angels new found confidence led to a quick 2-0 lead with both goals by Gary Humphries and then we settled into a controlling pattern before he made it 3-0 halfway through the game to complete his hat trick. Once again our nemesis of running gave the opposition a penalty which they didn’t miss and despite absorbing a lot of pressure in the final few minutes the Angels came out top to bring home the trophy and they progress to the next round in Dagenham on September 6.

Over the past two weekends, our walking footballers have taken part in the FA National Walking Football competition regional phase.

The Over 50s had a difficult task and due to holiday commitments we chose to send a team made up across our entire over 50/60/65 teams. This mean’t we were the 'oldest team on the block’ but in temperatures of 30° everyone put in a great performance and whilst the Angels finished in the bottom half of the league, we gave a good account of ourselves against much stronger opposition.

In our first game a very unlucky ricochet led to Craig Knowles using his nose to set up Kings Hill to score the only goal of the game. In our second game we were out played by Maidstone who scored within 30 seconds of the start. Next up were Insulators and whilst we went one nil down quite early a spirited performance and an equalizer by Bruce Izzard gave us a point before we moved onto Aylesford who had finished third in Kent league last season. Again they had taken a very strong team and whilst we tried our best suffered a 2-0 defeat. Our last two games against East Kent champions Woodnesborough and then Woodchurch both ended 0-0 giving us a creditable return of three points given the circumstances.

At Tonbridge Angels FC, we are incredibly proud of the impact our Walking Football programme continues to have on participants across our community. The recent impact assessment, completed by 59 participants, demonstrates that the programme is delivering far more than opportunities to play football—it is improving physical health, supporting mental wellbeing, reducing social isolation and creating a genuine sense of belonging.

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with an average impact score of 4.7 out of 5. Of the respondents, 43 rated the programme 5/5, while a further 13 rated it 4/5, highlighting the consistently positive experiences of those attending.

Perhaps most encouraging is the long-term engagement within the programme. Over 70% of respondents have been attending for more than a year, demonstrating that Walking Football has become an important and sustainable part of their weekly routine rather than a short-term activity.

The survey highlights several recurring themes.

Participants consistently reported improvements in their physical health, including increased fitness, mobility, stamina and coordination. Many described the sessions as an enjoyable way to remain active, particularly after retiring from traditional football or following injury.

Equally significant has been the programme’s impact on mental wellbeing. Numerous participants explained that the sessions provide structure, purpose and something to look forward to each week. Several spoke openly about overcoming loneliness, managing mental health challenges and finding renewed confidence through participation.

The strongest theme throughout the responses was the sense of community. Participants repeatedly referred to the friendships they have developed, the welcoming environment and the inclusive culture that has been created. Many described feeling part of a family, with one participant explaining that they had gone from having only a handful of close friends to being part of a friendship group of over thirty people. Others spoke about the club’s ethos of ensuring that “no one is left behind”, emphasising the supportive environment that exists both on and off the pitch.

The programme is clearly delivering social value beyond football. Participants regularly mentioned that Walking Football gives them an opportunity to leave the house, meet like-minded people, laugh together and enjoy meaningful social interaction. For many, these sessions have become one of the highlights of their week.

As a football club, we recognise that our responsibility extends beyond providing sporting opportunities. Walking Football has become a vital community programme that improves quality of life, promotes healthier lifestyles and creates lasting social connections for adults across a wide age range.

The continued support of our funders has been instrumental in making this possible. Their investment has enabled us to provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment where participants can improve both their physical and mental wellbeing while becoming part of a thriving community.

We remain committed to developing the programme further, increasing participation and ensuring even more people can benefit from the positive impact Walking Football is having within our community. The evidence from this year’s survey clearly demonstrates that the programme is not only meeting its objectives but making a genuinely life-changing difference to many of those involved.

Chatham Tournament - Sunday 12th July
We took a squad to Chatham to compete in an Over 50s Tournament, which comprised mainly of players from our Over 60s, with exception of Mark and Darren our youngsters.
We learnt you can lose your first game and still win the tournament. Chatham played us off the park and we were beaten 2-0.
We regrouped, slowed the next games down and played the way we have been practising in training, resulting in 2 wins against Bay City Strollers and Ebbsfleet. Qualifying in 2nd place for a Semi Final against Bexley.
The game against Bexley was our best performance, resulting in 3 relatively quick goals - Darren (2) and Craig. It was a real team performance with lots of movement, retention of the ball and communication.
In the final we met Chatham again and thanks to an outstanding performance by Mark in goal, the game ended 0-0 and we won on penalties.
It was a great squad performance, everybody contributing. We also learnt Darren does not like taking penalties and Gordon likes to take a touchline ball and pass it to himself!!
Another great day out with a cup for the cabinet.

Tonbridge Angels WF took 3 teams to Bexhill Tournament on Sunday. Unusually played on grass and very hot, with many uneven bounces on some very hard pitches we came away as winners of Over 60s and Runner Up of Over 50s, both of those teams unbeaten.

On Sunday 30 May, the Yeomans Community hosted its third annual Walking Football tournament. It was a very hot day but the Angels came home with two trophies making it three weekends on the trot they have added to the Club Trophy cabinet.
