Gigglepin

Gigglepin Gigglepin 4X4 based in Hildenborough, Kent, UK specialise in Land Rovers and Winches. Gigglepin 4×4 was launched in 1997 by Jim Marsden.

Our racing team compete worldwide and this is the place to be for the latest action updates! The brief was simple, to supply well priced care for Land Rover type vehicles and to offer good honest service. The next few years saw steady growth for Gigglepin and Jim started to race his Land Rover’s in Extreme Winch Challenge events, proving successful early on and taking his first international title

in 2000. As the business grew Gigglepin invested and found themselves moving premises in 2000 to the Gaza Trading Estate. We first moved into a modest two bay workshop but we have continued to grow and have expanded year on year to much larger workshops, a large parts and service department, all of which are housed on the same site. Whilst growing the main Business Jim found himself racing all over Europe and still collecting titles. Then in 2003 he started modifying and building up-rated components for the legendary Warn 8274 winch. The favoured winch of competitors worldwide. Jim started manufacturing further modifications and then in 2004 he produced the world’s first production Twinmotor top housing for the Warn 8274. This product launched Gigglepin on the International scene and with thousands of these units sold, and hundreds, if not, thousands of podium positions to their name, the Gigglepin Twinmotor top housing has become iconic. Jim did not stop there, now Gigglepin offer their own range of complete winches that are used by the best, at the biggest competitions worldwide. Gigglepin keeps pushing forward with new innovative ideas and 2011 was a great year for the team. After designing and building the new season race truck. Jim and co driver Wayne Smith from Australia competed at the Ultra Tough
Croatia Trophy. This hardcore 7 day race is not for the faint hearted but soon Jim and Wayne had victory in sight taking 1st overall against a world class field. To top this they also won an “Outstanding Achievement” award for winning by the greatest margin in the competitions history. Do you agree or disagree 🤷‍♂️
Ultra 4 is unlimited 4 wheel drive racing. The course can be anywhere, any terrain, any format or any length. The responsibility lays with the team to prepare and adapt themselves and their car to each race situation.
Is this correct?

The sun was hiding when we arrived at the new location for King of France 2026, a picturesque site just North West of Paris set in rolling countryside with thick woodland in abundance.
Soon it was time to get busy and our team had the race car dialled in and ready to take on the prologue. The prologue was a 4 km blast round a very technical woodland course that saw more than one of the teams finishing early as they failed to avoid the trees! Our game plan was simple, get on the front row of the grid and keep the car together. The race car performed faultlessly and we put down a storming lap putting us in 2nd place and on the front row ready for the next day, mission accomplished.

Day one started well when we found ourselves in Pole Position after the car that qualified first failed to make it to the start line on time. We launched off the line with Sam back in the co-driver’s seat for the second time. He was doing a great job navigating and keeping the team on track. The car was also working superbly well until Jim tagged tyre on a unseen tree stump. Back in the pits the team swapped the wheel quickly and they were soon back on track and by the end of lap 2 they had a commanding two minute lead. Lap 3 saw Jim and Sam continuing to dominate laying down the fastest lap of the day, then on lap 4 it was all change as the course started to rapidly deteriorate in a key area and as the Gigglepin Team approached it was clear it was not going to be easy as there were already 4 cars stuck and floundering on muddy rocks. Pre-running is key to these moments and Jim was certain that he could use a tougher line to the left side and he confidently drove round the stuck vehicles to take on the new line. But off-racing is never simple and the right hand front wheel dropped between huge rocks with semi fluid clay dragging the vehicle down into the mire. No problem and Sam was soon out of the car and running winch cable. With the winch connected they start to pull but every time they went use the winch the car cut out. Clearly electrical gremlins had climbed on board and no matter what the team tried they could not resolve the issue.
Unable to continue and with cars stacking up in every direction the team jumped to the rescue and helped the other teams to unplug the race course by setting winches an assisting teams. It was a long 4 hours for Jim and Sam working hard the whole time until the race was over so they could then recover their own vehicle. 45 minutes working with an 8 ton digger finally saw the now very dirty race car being recovered and able to head back to the pits.
This team never surrender and after cleaning the car they started to work on the vehicle to resolve the issues and be ready for the next day’s racing.

Day 2 started with glorious sunshine and blue skies as the team rose with blurry eyes after having working until 2am to get the race car ready for action. There was still everything to play for despite the early retirement the day before, and Jim and Sam were in the car and ready to take on the new Day 2 course. Starting in 16th position they soon had a rhythm and started to pass cars putting down solid and consistent lap times. By the end of lap 3 they had moved from 16th to 1st on track and were starting to build a lead. As they made their way round lap 5 the car was on fine form with good temperatures and oil pressure, until out of the blue it started to misfire. They made their way back to the pits were Head mechanic Michael confirmed that this was not going to be a simple fix and with heavy hearts the team had to retire.
A frustrating end to the race after having such high hopes and expectations, but racing is cruel mistress and results are earnt not bought. So it’s back to the workshops and time to get ready for the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2026
