GSC LEJOG

GSC LEJOG Richard, Phil and Michael cycle Lands End to John O'Groats, starting June 18th. Supported by our lovely CFO - Liz and our mascot - Shankly.

On June 18th, Liz (aka Pinky) Richard, Phil, Michael and Shankly will set off from Lands End. Attempting to complete LEJOG in nine and a half days. What's special about this? The team only started training 6 weeks before the start date. With limited preparation they hope to show that you anybody can push themselves to achieve a big challenge. Why are they doing it? There was a moment in time that

we could all do it. Lots of reasons not to do it. We all share a common belief that in life, take the opportunities that come along - as you never know what is around the corner. What would we like to achieve? Great memories and inspire our kids to do similar things in the future. We need to thank some people
Our wives and families - for the last few weeks we have been on our bikes for far too long. And friends and family that are putting us up along the journey.

A goodbye post from your 'official' photographer as we travelled down to Newcastle for the ferry via our last Family and Friends scheduled stop with Tim Corringham and an opportunity to formally thank Liz for her outstanding support with a few small gifts from the intrepid cyclists....and for some the occasion all got too much as tiredness took over. The last batch of photos follow - hope you've enjoyed the viewing of them as much as we have the experience. Life is not about what you have but who you share it with and the memories you create together....

Bit of a c**k up on the c**k up front due to poor Wi-Fi but for the record:

Cockup of the Day 6 goes to all 3 riders for predicting a narrow Remain vote, only to be surprised the following morning

Cockup of the Day 7. An early first half c**kup by Richard, still trying to muster support for European principles by cycling on the wrong side of the road out of Lockerbie cemetery, followed in the second half by Phil (helmet left in car at lunchtime). But in extra time the result was sealed by person or persons unknown in the Price family for losing the room key!

Cockup of the Day 8 - a very wet afternoon, and an ingenious invention of triplex clothing manufactured on the spot by a kind lady using bin bags – worked a treat. Shouldn’t have left the kitty wallet in the café though should you Phil!

Cockup of the Day 9 - car keys don’t bend - oops Lanyard Lil!

Cockup of the Day 10, a completely c**kup free day until we had arrived safely at John O’Groats. Tired but very happy, and taking memorable photos. Phil gallantly moves out of the way of the camera to allow Richard to have his photo taken on his own, and falls arse over tit over his bike, much to the merriment of the onlookers. 2 minutes later Richard trips up over an imaginary step up to the JOG café and lands on the deck, as does his phone, which was very lucky as we also find the phone which Michael dropped earlier

Day 10 - all is done and homeward bound!

We knew we were in for a good last day when our early start was greeted with not 1 but 2 rainbows and the Crask Inn saw us pack an early unplanned breakfast before heading onto Bettyhill in the rain / sun. Our last Lizzie pitstops saw us meet her in a lay-by complete with an old style Phonebox followed by the seafront at Thurso and a gentle ride in with the wind on our backs to John O Groats. 1615km done and 17.229km of ascent...Here's the last day in pictures....

DAY 10 - The final countdown. It's been a great adventure, we've met wonderful people and seen some stunning scenery. It's nice to be close to the finish line, but the question is - what's next?

Well day 9 is done and somewhat a repeat of Day 8's weather with a beautiful morning seeing a long climb up to Loch Tarff rewarding us with amazing views. The afternoon saw us drop down in elevation and unfortunately find rain and strong winds but also Loch Ness leaving us safely positioned in Lairg for the night before tomorrow's final attempt at the Summit.... The story by pictures follows...
