BOWLS. Southampton Bowling Club, which dates from the year 1299, will this week decide the most important event of its season, namely, the Green Medal tournament, which carries with it the “knighthood” of the winner. On no other bowling ground is this observance honoured. Ever since 1775 continuously this novel prize has been under annual competition. The "knights,” of whom there are fourteen, although precluded from again playing in this competition, have the privilege of placing the jack. The tournament, which opens on Wednesday morning, is won by the first player scoring seven points. At times the competition will last over three days, whilst in others it has been decided a single day. The winner, during the remainder of his membership, is entitled to the prefix of `Sir' to his Christian name whenever referred to by a fellow-player….8/8/1907
