From swimming lessons to Ballet and Mini Acro, we love going the extra mile to give every child the best start in life with lots of different experiences and opportunities. We love getting out and about in the community, from the care home to the Fire station to lots of fun at our very own Traquinas Nature. A day in the life at Traquinas is never a dull one!

🍌🍞 Baking up something delicious! 🍞🍌

Our children asked if they could do some baking and, after sharing their ideas together, they decided banana bread was the perfect choice! 💛

We started by reading Handa’s Surprise and chatting about our favourite fruits, looking closely at their different colours, shapes and textures. 🍊🍍🍌🥭 We then explored bananas in more detail, using our banana charts to discover how they ripen and change colour over time.

Then it was time to get baking! 👩🍳👨🍳 The children worked beautifully together to measure, pour, mix and stir, talking about each ingredient and exploring its colour, smell and texture along the way. We smelled the cinnamon, tasted the sultanas and all agreed they were VERY squishy! 😂

And the learning didn’t stop when the banana bread went into the oven… our little helpers even got stuck into washing up the bowls afterwards! 🫧🥣

A wonderful child-led experience filled with teamwork, maths, communication, sensory exploration and lots of independence – all sparked by the children’s own idea. ❤️

🍝🎶 Pasta play & making music! 🎶🍝

Our little ones had so much fun exploring pasta through sensory play! We practised our fine motor skills as we scooped, poured, filled and emptied, developing our hand-eye coordination and control along the way. 🥄✨

We then turned our pasta into our very own musical instruments! 🎵 We loved shaking, listening and discovering all the different sounds we could make. Such a simple activity filled with so much learning, creativity and fun! 💛

🐷🐴 Squash, squeeze, squish & explore! 🐮🐑

Our nursery children had so much fun getting hands-on with our squash and squeeze sensory tray! We chatted about all the different animals we could see and learned the names of their babies too. 🐣🐄

Then it was time for a game of hide and seek! 👀 The animals disappeared underneath the spaghetti and little hands got busy squishing, squeezing and searching to find them! 🍝🙌

The fun didn’t stop there… afterwards we got up and played Animal Freeze! 🎶🐾 We pretended to be different animals, moving around the room before FREEZING when we heard the instruction! 🐒🦁

Such a fun way to combine sensory exploration, language, listening skills, imagination and lots of movement — all through play! 💛✨

🐠 A trip inspired by our children! 🐠

After some of our children began chatting about a fishing trip, we decided to follow their interests and take our learning on an adventure to Pets at Home! 🚌✨

We loved exploring the fish, watching them swim around their tanks and talking about the different colours, sizes and types we could see. 🐟👀 There were lots of excited conversations and curious questions along the way!

Of course, we couldn’t forget our feathered friends back at nursery! 🐔💛 We picked up some yummy sweetcorn for our chickens before heading back to give them their special treat.

We love seeing where the children’s conversations and interests take us! 🌟

📚🌾 Book of the Month: The Scarecrows’ Wedding! 🌾📚

This month we’re enjoying the wonderful The Scarecrows’ Wedding, and our children have been bringing the story to life through their own creativity! 🥰

Using playdough and a selection of loose parts, the children explored different textures, shapes and materials as they designed and created their very own scarecrows. 🌻🧑🌾

There were so many fantastic ideas as they carefully chose what their scarecrows needed, developing their imagination, fine motor skills and creativity while making connections with our story. ✨

We love seeing where a favourite book can take our learning! 📖💛

🌧️ Rainy days are made for exploring! ☔️💧

Our nursery children have been taking a closer look at the weather this week, using all their senses to discover the rain! 🌦️

We talked about what rain looks like, listened carefully to what we could hear, and explored how the raindrops felt as they landed on our hands and faces. 💦👂🏼👀

It was a wonderful opportunity to slow down, notice the world around us and learn through real-life experiences. Who knew a rainy day could bring so much curiosity and discovery? 🌧️🥰

🧸🥪 Teddy Bear Picnic Fun! 🥪🧸

Our children had the loveliest time preparing for their very own teddy bear picnic! 💛

We started by talking about why it’s important to clean our hands before preparing food, before identifying all the ingredients we needed to make our yummy ham sandwiches. The children carefully spread the butter, added the ham and even cut their sandwiches into triangles — developing lots of independence and fine motor skills along the way! 🥪✨

Then it was time for the picnic! 🧺🧸 We loved sitting together, laughing with our friends, looking out for birds and, of course, making sure our teddy bears had something to eat too! We chatted about our special bears and why we love them so much. 🥰

A wonderful time was had filled with learning, friendship, independence and lots of yummy food! ❤️

🦖🦕 Dinosaur Adventures! 🦕🦖

Our nursery children have been having a ROAR-some time exploring their love of dinosaurs! 💚

From getting hands-on and making their very own playdough, then using it to create exciting dinosaur worlds, to getting creative and painting their own dinosaurs, they’ve loved every moment! 🎨✨

There’s been plenty of squishing, rolling, stomping, painting and imaginative play along the way, all while developing those important fine motor skills, creativity and curiosity. 🥰

We absolutely love following the children’s interests and seeing where their imaginations take them… and this time, it took us all the way back to the dinosaurs! 🌿🦖

🐉🌟 A golden-star adventure with Zog! 🌟🐉

Our nursery children had so much fun bringing the wonderful story of Zog to life! 📖✨ As we read together, the children acted out Zog’s adventures and all the different lessons he learns each year at dragon school — there was plenty of imagination, laughter and fantastic storytelling along the way! 🐲

Once we reached the end of the story, it was time for a challenge… could we make our very own Zog using loose parts and earn ourselves a golden star? ⭐ The children got incredibly creative, with some even using the loose parts on themselves to transform into Zog! 😍

Everyone was so proud to show off their well-earned golden stars — and because we did SUCH an amazing job, we finished by throwing golden stars into the air and trying to fly and catch them just like Zog! 🌟🐉

Such a lovely activity filled with storytelling, role play, creativity, teamwork and LOTS of imagination! ❤️
