On the road again for our monthly road trip to watch some proper football and this time we are at marsh lane and home to Oxford city football club.
It's slinging it down and it's quite a walk from the car park to get to the community ground but we are here in plenty of time.
We head for the bar, there's a decent presence from the darts fans , Leeds vs Brentford are on the big screen and 2 Well deserved pints are sunk , have to say this is a very smart and modern bar area.
We head to get a programme and what a cracker for just £2.50 , not full of your usual pointless adverts and rubbish.
The food bar is next to the bar, the selection is standard minus the chips , every ground I've ever been to bare minimally sells chips apart from here , everything is at average prices but there was nothing that was amazing just average.
We head for the main stand and next to the announcer who reads out the teams and belts out helicopter by bloc party , Dejavu though as the hospital is in the back ground and the air ambulance is taking off.
The teams take to the pitch and the game gets going.
Oxford inviting a lot of unnecessary pressure on themselves early on and this lasts the whole first half . Very impressed with them to be honest and there league position does not do them justice , dartford lack any real threat.
Oxford make it to half time 1 up.
Second half is much more attacking and Oxford deservably get 3 more and looked like they could of ran away with it in all fairness, dartford make changes and look slightly better getting a consolation goal and something for there decent support something to cheer about.
From all the games we have been to you can see the massive difference in standard of football and one you can see my beloved gresley fc being a major part of one day.

Final score Oxford city 4 Dartford 1

After a very long break we decide to head out and watch some much needed football ( 8th September). Fa cup weekend and plenty of decent fixtures to pick from, we do our usual and sit down at work (on break of course) and select which fixtures take our fancy , this week 3 take our fancy but one sticks out the most, knights lane and home to Stratford town seems to tickle our fancy so we make the hour or so journey to see stratford vs alvechurch.
We make it in good time to do our usual beer , programme and food stops.
Martin and I are sat in what looks like a newly installed bar but the selection isn't the greatest , to the side is the board members conference area full of the directors from both teams and the bar area seems full of church supporters and one man in particular approaches Martin to ask him where the toilets are only to be politely told we have never been to this ground however it looks like there may be some through this door , unfortunately it wasn't the case and a table placed behind the door is still rolling down the m5, we make for a quick exit , well done Martin ha ha ha.
The ground looks lovely and flat , there's a main stand that looks arty farty on one side of the pitch and a little stand opposite where the dugouts are placed , with little stands behind one end. Church are managed by ex tividale manager Ian long , and wow what a gobby sh*te this man is , he argues everything f ing and jeffing all through the game, to the annoyance of the home support and his own support alike and doesn't give his team one piece of encouragement , even when his side score the eventual winner , he blast them with now sort your f ing passes out. You can see how church have won a lot of decisions with referees and won games alike with the influence of this management team.
Stratford look a very decent side even if league tables don't tell the true story , and they did lose a player to what looked a hard challenge but gobby and his side kicks won his team a red card so stratford faced an uphill challenge.

Final score stratford 0 church 1

So final games of the season are not always the most entertaining but with nearly 4000 people crammed in to see there sides finish off there seasons and with the sun switched on to melt ..... it had everything there to be a loud one .
Today was only possible because of a brave little boy called Harri and friend of my daughter ruby who's family and school held a fundraiser for him as at the age of 3 he's been diagnosed with cancer.
My other daughter Sophie won this brilliant prize which was 3 very good history books on forest green and 2 free tickets ..... So it was only fair my not so little girl and best mate came along for her first of many games.
Today's fixture came from the new lawn stadium in nailsworth and home to the most eco friendly club in the world forest green rovers and there opponents for there last game is Grimsby town who always travel with great support and today they were out in force selling out there near 1000 allocation.
Both teams have had pretty dire seasons and in some opinions are glad the season was over.
Roll on next season and fingers crossed THE MOAT GROUND your next 😉❤❤❤

January 6th and we are getting even closer to my heart , in the evo stick south west division 1 ,this hidden gem and a team my beloved gresley used to play back in the day. Today we head towards bristol and today's entertainment comes from cossham street ,this local bristol derby match between mangotsfield United and bristol manor farm.
Sitting in the main stand amongst some of the locals you can here there worried for there side today as bristol manor farm have had a lot of money pumped into the side so we are expecting goals.
Sadly only 214 people turned out for this game but it was January and mangotsfield are 3rd from bottom but even so this is a derby game.
To be absolutely honest with you the mangos looked the side chasing promotion and were the better side for most the game they also had a player sent off but still managed to take all 3 much needed points.

Final score mangos 2 Bristol Manor Farm 1

December 2nd , me and my mate Martin have decided to stick with the evo stick premier league and this time we are at badgers hill and the home of the robins frome town and today they take on Kettering town.
Old moatman favourite leads the front line for Kettering and to be honest he's still got the goal scoring habit and also he still has his fiery side ( or mardy ) which ever way you see it , gresley fans will get what I mean.
267 brave brace souls see out this game of 2 halves , this game gives me real memories of being at the moat ground as there are a few choirboys doing there bit for Kettering ( good for them love hearing it ) and someone has decided to light a bonfire just before kick off ( again gresley fans will get that ).

Final score is frome 2 Kettering 2 (guess who got the Kettering goals)

November 4th and we are in the evo stick southern premier division and it's Banbury United fc vs Tiverton Town fc ..... it's bloody freezing Tiverton Town are looking to pick up points as they are chasing promotion, Banbury sit mid table and are by no means out of the chase with the second half of the season to play for .... 413 brave souls see out a real cruel in the eyes of a Banbury fan game of football .... they seem to be the better side for most the game and with a bit of lady luck from Tiverton saw them turn the game around and in the end deserve the win.

Final score Banbury 1 Tiverton 2

It's our 2nd outing and we've stuck with the national league and next up is the northern section ( ok it was the fa cup )
Leamington fc vs Gainsborough trinity ( 30th September ) not quite the sunny day that we had at Weston but still a very enjoyable day out.
The pitch was lovely and flat again and the club has a very impressive club house. Played out in front of 451 people it was a tight game with not much in it between the two sides , the final result was 0 - 0. This fixture had to be decided by replay at Gainsborough on the 3rd October with Gainsborough winning 2 - 0

The first game of our non league days out was at Weston super mare fc who hosted havent and Waterlooville in the national league South on a gloriously sunny day ( 2nd August ) in front of 467 lucky people that saw 5 goals. This ground was very impressive and probably the best playing surface I've seen in a long time and the other very impressive thing was the watering system that you only really see in premiership games.

It was a lovely ground to visit and and a very entertaining game of football and excellent value for money .... highly recommended.
