IRONMAN TALLINN - 5th Full distance | 10:04

After my previous two Ironmans ended in the medical tent, Tallinn was about doing things differently.

πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ Swim easy. No heroics, no wasted energy.
πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ Bike controlled. Keep the ego in check and stick to the plan.
🍌 Fuel. Fuel. Fuel. Start early, stay on top of it and give the run a chance. Plus 2 complete stops in personal needs for real food
πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ Then race the marathon.

And it worked.

A 3:22 marathon to finish in 10:04 β€” agonisingly close to that sub-10, but probably one of the best-executed Ironmans I’ve done.

There’s always the temptation in an Ironman to chase time from the start. This one was a reminder that sometimes the fastest way to the finish line is to spend the first 7 hours deliberately holding yourself back.

Crossed the line running, stayed on my feet, and ran straight past the medical tent. πŸ˜‚

10:04. 3:22 marathon. No IV.

I’ll take that.

Sub-10 though… we’re going to have to talk about those four minutes. πŸ‘€

What a guy πŸ’ͺ🏻 Dan Bailey
Dan came to me in December and told me he had entered Outlaw Full (Ironman distance race!), his first ever triathlon! He didn't have a bike, had never really swum but had a big old engine for running. We built his program around a physical job, family, life and learning as we progressively built his fitness and skills. The race itself was tough, swim becoming a run, double blow out due to pothole, knee problem, fuelling issues but he never gave up.

Yesterday he completed Outlaw πŸ”₯

πŸ”₯ The Wednesday Club is still on β€” with a heat-adapted session.

We’ll be keeping things sensible with a shorter, easier session focused on relaxed running, good form and staying cool.

πŸ’§ Bring plenty of water
🧒 Wear a cap / sunscreen if you need it
πŸƒ Run at your own pace β€” walk breaks are absolutely fine
🌳 We’ll use shade where possible and keep the group together

No pressure to chase pace this week β€” just come along, move well and enjoy the session.
