Municipal LEAGUE – WEEK 5 ROUND-UP
After five weeks of action, the Municipal League table is beginning to take shape, but there are already some fascinating storylines developing across the division.
At the summit, there is little to separate two of the league’s traditional heavyweights. The Harlequins currently occupy top spot, edging ahead on shot difference after a strong start to the campaign. Inspired by the ever-reliable Lee Dibble, the back to back Municipal Cup winners have looked sharp and consistent, recording four wins from their opening five fixtures and building an impressive +81 shot difference.
Hot on their heels are another former powerhouse, the Masons. Under the experienced leadership of old head Malcolm Dodds, the Masons remain unbeaten with four victories from four matches. With a game in hand on the leaders, many believe they may yet emerge as the team to beat as the season progresses.
The battle at the top is already shaping up to be one of the stories of the year, with two former champions appearing destined for a title race that could go right down to the final weeks.
Dragon’s Back sit comfortably in third and remain firmly in contention, while Hillbillies and Talgarth Town FC round out a tightly packed chasing group, all locked on six points.
Elsewhere, reigning champions the Mavericks have endured a stuttering start to the defence of their crown. Despite showing glimpses of the quality that carried them to last season’s title, two defeats from their opening four matches leave them down in seventh place and with work to do if they are to mount a serious title challenge.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the season so far is the plight of former champions Rugger Buggerz. Led by Talgarth TM David Jones, the once-dominant side find themselves languishing in eighth place with three defeats from five matches and a worrying negative shot difference. There is still plenty of time to turn things around, but the pressure is beginning to build if they are to avoid being cut adrift from the leading pack.
At the foot of the table, R.C Roosters, Gwernyfed VP and Spanners are all searching for momentum as the season heads into its next crucial phase.
With the title race heating up, champions struggling for form, and former winners fighting to rediscover their best, the 2026 Municipal League season is already delivering plenty of drama.
