Not your usual before and after photos!
After developing a brain abscess that ultimately required two surgeries I was completely paralysed down my left side. Unable to speak, feed myself and unable to sit or stand, let alone walk.
A total of 4 months in hospital undergoing gruelling occupational and physical therapy. I lost 15kg in weight going down to 61kg.
My recovery has apparently been nothing short of remarkable. Thanks in no small part to the amazing staff at St Georges Hospital (Atkinson Morley Wing, Brodie Ward). In their words, being fit and strong prior to the surgery was absolutely crucial in my return to independence.
Being fit and strong isn't always about the here and now. It's not always important how fast you can run today, or how much you can lift today.
Being fit is your own health insurance. It can, certainly in my case, have benefits beyond speed and power. Not always noticeable, but infinitely more important.
Stay fit and strong because one day it could be the difference between surviving or not. Getting your life back.... or not.
