FG Training

FG Training Helping you to find the fun in your gym workout, achieve your goals and generally improve your health & fitness!

Having worked in the events industry for around 10 years, I decided to take the plunge, leave my stable job and follow my love for fitness. That being said, I've not always been a fitness fan, but have found my passion for the gym, being fit and healthy, and getting stronger has hugely snowballed over the last few years. I'll do a blog post shortly on how all this came about :)

⚠️ HONESTY ALERT ⚠️

At the start of the year I set myself a goal to get a 200% bodyweight Deadlift (somewhere around 136kg), with my current 1 rep max being 100kg.

We’re almost at the end of the year, and I know I will not achieve this goal. And rather than beating myself up about it, I’ve accepted it and am okay with it.

My training this year has not been very consistent and my motivation has been wavering a lot, for various reasons. There seems to be an expectation that as a Personal Trainer, you should be training daily, eating perfectly and being super strong and super fit ... well, ‼️breaking news‼️, us PTs are human too! I know I’ve been fitter, perhaps I’ve been slightly stronger in the past, and my diet has also been better.

What am I doing about it though?! I’ve set myself some short term goals: to get my training back on track and more consistent, short term goal is to consistently train 4 times a week. Food-wise, I’m making better choices and being more conscious of what I’m eating but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy food! I’ve also joined another gym, where I go to get coached, learn new things and push myself and train in a style I’ve never trained before.

So, my goal is still to hit a 200% bodyweight deadlift but for now, the time frame on this is TBC! The focus is on the short term, and enjoying training again! ✌️

Meal Prep Sundays!

Prepping in advance not only saves time during the week, but takes out the stress of hungry decision making; which often means we don’t make the best choices

🍒🍧 Greek Yoghurt, Protein, Oats & Blueberries for breakfast
🥚🥬🥓 Bacon, Feta & Spinach Egg Muffins for mid-morning snack
🍤🥘 Chicken & Prawn Paella for lunch or dinner

🤓 N.E.A.T 🤓
🔥 ⚖️ENERGY BALANCE🔥⚖️

Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis

Basically, the energy expended/calories burned during everything that isn’t exercise, sleeping or eating

This can be responsible for 15-50% of your daily calorie expenditure, depending on how “spontaneously active” you are

This can include:
🚶‍♂️Walking
🧹Cleaning
🌳Gardening
🤹‍♀️Fidgeting
🕺Adjusting posture
🕴🏻Standing still

👊You can control this! 👊
Increase your steps, stand up at work, move around at your desk, take the stairs, spend a bit longer on the hoovering!

When you’re so good at Networking that EVERYONE wants to sit on your table 😂😂😂

I’ve never really been one for “networking” or “working the room” but that’s not what I went for anyway!!

In all seriousness, the Stephan Guyenet seminars on Saturday were really interesting and I definitely picked up some take-home points which I’ll be implementing with my clients. was a fab host, and it really was amazing to see what a huge family-like community he’s built with the whole team and members!

Will be following up with some bits n pieces that I learnt over the weekend and from recent lectures 🤓 later this week! ✌️

Rita was one of my first clients here at Anytime Fitness, and she came to me wanting to strengthen her core and improve balance. After needing Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgery last year, her goals changed and we focused on Rita being able to straighten her leg again, and build strength back up.

A couple of weeks ago, Rita said to me “I think I’ve put weight on my legs, my jeans don’t fit very well” ... No Rita, you’ve in fact just built muscle!

I’m so impressed with her determination: she’s stronger than before, and determined to maintain her mobility and strength 💪💪💪
