It's been 10 years since out first course and we're still going strong. Congratulations to our latest cohort who successfully achieved their 30 minute run and parkrun these past couple of weeks. As we always say the only thing stopping you from completing the course is yourself and our latest group of runners have shown exactly why that is the case, their dedication and determination to complete this years course was evident week after week and look at them now, running 30 minutes non-stop and smiles all round.

Many thanks to all of the volunteers from Chessington Unity Running Club who have turned up week in week out to assist this lovely lot achieve their goals, we couldn't do this without you!

Josie was one of our original graduates from our first course in 2016 and along with Becky Stopford and Kirstyn Chappell she ran her very first parkrun at Kingston on 13th February 2016 just one month after starting her running journey.

We will be at Kingston on Saturday to celebrate the life of Josie who can only be described as a wonderful lady with an wicked sense of humour, someone who will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her.

Why not join us, you can run, walk, volunteer or simply be there to support but make sure you're wearing pink, Josie loved pink, we will be!

This Saturday, 31st Jan 2026, at our 5K Your Way event, we will be celebrating the life of Josie Bate who died on Tuesday 20th Jan, one year after her diagnosis of terminal brain cancer. We set up Kingston parkrun 5k Your Way, Move Against Cancer in her honour.

Josie loved parkrun and was a regular parkrunner and volunteer. She was kind, clever and very funny and that came out in her run reports -https://www.parkrun.org.uk/kingston/news/2023/09/12/kingston-parkrun-eventful-626-9-september-2023/

Josie loved pink so we are encouraging you to join us for one minutes applause to celebrate Josie, at the start line wearing pink.

Remember, 5k Your Way is for everyone — walk, jog, run, cheer, volunteer, or simply join us for a coffee and connect with others who have been impacted by cancer.
Josie will be very much in our hearts.

Well that's week 1 done and dusted and our latest cohort are well and truly on their way to smashing this years course. A cracking effort by all who came and took their first steps into running as well as those who are returning from a break, everyone did so well.

Next week our timings increase to Running 3 / Walking 3 x 5 for our 30 minute session.

Good morning, I would like to quickly address a question that comes up every year, the inevitable "Do we still run if it is raining?"

The short answer is Yes we do!

You will often hear us saying that we're not made of sugar or there is no such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing. However the one constant is that those that don't turn up when the evening is looking a bit bleak often go on to regret it as actually the weather isn't as bad outside as it seems when you're sat indoors in a warm lounge.

So with a bleak evening forecast we look forward to seeing you all this evening.

We are celebrating our 10 Year Anniversary in January and over those 10 years our dedicated run leaders have guided over 250 people of all ages and different levels of fitness through our 10-week programme to go from a non-runner to being able to run for 30 minutes non-stop and achieve a 5k run. The vast majority of those who have taken part are still running to this day and some have even gone on to run half marathons, marathons and in some cases ultra marathons with one of graduates completing a 100-mile run from Richmond to Oxford in 2024 having graduated at our very first course in 2016.

We are now taking registrations for our 2026 course, as always it is free of charge, suitable for all abilities whether you are new to running or just looking to get back into running after a time out and you will be supported along your journey by qualified run leaders and volunteers from the club, many of whom have all graduated through Zero2Hero.
