Today club joined with to dive the wreck of the “Devon Coast” also known as the “Stone Boat” as it was carrying a cargo of cement when it collided with another steamer “Jeanie” in 1908. The wreck lies at 16m (CD) which today was about 23m with today’s tides, just off from Cuckmere Haven in East Sussex. Our Rhib with the two clubs then went in to watch the Eastbourne Airshow from the sea coming along side and securing to Proteus a catamaran hard boat used by Met SAC, another bsac dive club connected with Kingston and Elmbridge. Nice collaboration and coordination by three clubs out to enjoy diving and some aviation!

This weekend has been all about club work… and twinset training! 💪🤿

Our members have been putting in a huge amount of effort over the past few weekends (and plenty of weekdays too!) preparing for some major compressor upgrades. After this weekend’s work, things will look remarkably different when you come down to the club on Thursday. Just take a little extra care when parking in the car park while everything settles into its new home.

A massive thank you to Paul Pritchard Pritchards of London for bringing the expertise and equipment needed to move the compressor, and to Rob, Nick, Ian, Paul and Nathan for all the hard work getting everything into position. We thought the cylinders were heavy (and they are!), but the compressor was on another level. Thankfully, we had a 4x4 to help drag it around the corner once we’d rolled it out on scaffolding poles—an ancient Egyptian technique that worked surprisingly well! 😄

Saturday saw the clubhouse being used for our Twinset Training course, before everyone headed to Vobster on Sunday to put all that theory and shutdown practice to good use.

A very successful weekend all round! We just need to complete the electrics and pipework for the new compressor before we can remove the old one.

We’re all set for air fills this week, so members, come on down and make the most of your free air fills. Nitrox is available by appointment as usual via the online booking form. 😉

Fantastic day on and under the water today using the club RHIB. We were diving the Inverclyde only 16m to the bottom and a only a small wreck, but long slack meant every nock and cranny could be explored - we saw lots of different types of fish, conger, lobster, spider crab…picked up Scallop or two. Lovely cool breeze although it was nice once in with a drysuit on!

Even one of our young club divers got some boat handling experience in on the way back.

That’s what club diving is about - fun, safe and with friends!

Great second day of diver training today. Amanda and Nathan took in Neil and Pascal for completion of Neil’s open water sessions to become an Ocean Diver and Pascal to gain his Drysuit qualification!

Congratulations to the both of you on successfully finishing your new qualifications. 🎉🥳

We were definitely “feeling hot hot hot” as the song 🎶 goes on the surface, but such a great way to cool down in this heat once in.

The Wraysbury Team, as always took great care of us during our visit - kept the drinks and ice creams flowing! Thanks guys

Good also to see Richard Corner and colleague there from the HEAD Watersports Group that spoke at the club on Thursday night!

Great turn out at last nights talk by Head Group’s UK representative Richard Corner. Head Group includes diving brands such as Apeks, Mares and Aqualung.

50 divers from many agencies and clubs turned up to listen in, ask questions and get to try some of the different kit available. (Ed. never knew that Mares made an SCR rebreather!)

The other big draw was the 20% off anything ordered with vouchers valid until the end of month…just in time for the summer dive season!

Great morning dive on the Lancer II, 27m dive off the Sussex Coast. Calm blue waters meant we flew along! Lots of fish and crabs crawling over the wreck! (Vis about 3m), which is not bad after the recent algae blooms.
