👏🏼⚽️ THANK YOU, TONY! ⚽️👏🏼

Absolute Sunderland Sunday League legend Tony Armstrong officially retires from East Herrington Lakeside FC at the age of 44.

Tony was a crucial part of our team during our first season and played a massive role. He even filled in between the sticks when we needed him, showing exactly the kind of player and teammate he was.

But let’s be honest… Tony was at his absolute best in the middle of the park! 🎩⚽️ When he was in midfield, he was untouchable. An absolute baller with quality, experience and an ability to control the game that was a massive asset to us.

Away from the football, Tony was an absolute cracking bloke to have around the team and someone who will be a huge miss both on and off the pitch.

We’re delighted that he’s not hanging the boots up completely and will be continuing his football in the 40s league. We wish him all the very best and hope he continues enjoying his football for many more years.

From everyone at East Herrington Lakeside FC, thank you for everything, Tony. You’ve been a massive part of our journey and will always be welcome back at the club. 💙

🏆 League Cup Match Report

Silksworth Park 0–19 East Herrington

A dominant display from the Herrington lads today as they worked tirelessly from start to finish to secure a tremendous 19–0 league cup victory over Silksworth Park.

From the opening whistle, East Herrington looked sharp, determined and hungry for goals. The lads showed great teamwork, movement and work rate throughout the game, putting in a performance that reflected the effort and commitment they’ve been showing on the training ground.

The goals kept coming, with Josh Dick leading the way with an outstanding six-goal haul. AJ, Ryan Gray and Brent Brooke all contributed hat-tricks, while Liam Chambers, Jack Thoms, Dean Coulson and Billy Thompson also got themselves on the scoresheet.

It wasn’t just the goals that impressed, though. The lads were unselfish in possession, creating plenty of chances for one another, with assists spread throughout the team. Ryan Gray led the assist charts with four, while AJ, Josh Dick and Brent Brooke also played key roles in creating opportunities for their teammates.

A fantastic all-round team performance and a brilliant result to progress in the cup. Credit to every player who put in the hard yards today — 19 goals, a clean sheet and a thoroughly deserved cup victory.

Ryan Gray beauty free-kick in the County Cup Against Witton Gilbert

County Cup: East Herrington 4–3 Whitton Gilbert

East Herrington secured a thrilling 4–3 victory over Whitton Gilbert in the County Cup after a seven-goal contest full of twists and turns.

Whitton Gilbert opened the scoring when their striker produced a clever lob over East Herrington goalkeeper to put the visitors ahead.

East Herrington responded through Josh Dick, who burst through into the box before keeping his composure to finish and level the game.

Whitton Gilbert regained the lead shortly afterwards, but East Herrington refused to let the game slip away. Dick once again found space in behind the Whitton Gilbert defence and calmly finished to make it 2–2, completing his second goal of the match.

The comeback continued when Ryan Gray stepped up from around 25 yards and produced a superb free kick to put East Herrington in front.

Dick then completed his hat-trick, finding the net for the third time to make it 4–2 and put East Herrington in control.

Whitton Gilbert scored a late goal to set up a tense finish, but East Herrington held on to claim a dramatic 4–3 County Cup victory.

FULL-TIME — JARROW 4-2 EAST HERRINGTON LAKESIDE FC

Despite Going 1-0 up and 1-1 at the break, today we were well beaten by the better side, and there’s no hiding from that. Early in the second half Jarrow were gifted a soft penalty and also our CB a sin bin, in this time we conceded 2 goals in a matter of minutes. Fighting an uphill battle from there.

The gaps between our players were far too big, we weren’t grafting for each other and when our chances came, we didn’t take them. We were then punished for it.

We were outrun, outworked and, at times, bullied by a group of kids who simply wanted it more than we did. They had each other’s backs for the full 90 minutes, never stopped running and kept fighting for everything.

We looked tired, frustrated and out of ideas. There was no real fight, no passion and nowhere near the standards we’ve set ourselves. Today’s effort was, quite simply, p**s poor.

Credit to Jarrow, they deserved the win.

East Herrington 10–2 Fleet Street

East Herrington produced a ruthless attacking display as they ran out 10–2 winners against Fleet Street in a game packed with goals.

East Herrington got off to the perfect start, with Ryan Gray opening the scoring early before Josh Dick quickly added another. The goals continued to come in quick succession as Herrington took control, but Fleet Street refused to fold and managed to stay within touching distance going into the break, with the score 3–1.

Fleet Street came flying out of the blocks after half-time and pulled another goal back to make it 3–2, giving themselves a real chance of mounting a comeback.

However, East Herrington’s front line proved too much to handle. The attacking pressure continued and the goals began to flow once again, with Josh Dick leading the charge and completing an impressive four-goal haul.

AJ also found the net twice, while Shay Forbes added his name to the scoresheet. There was even time for East Herrington left-back Brent Brooke to get in on the action, capping off an outstanding team performance.

Fleet Street battled hard throughout, but once East Herrington found their rhythm, they proved unstoppable and ultimately finished with a convincing 10–2 victory.

Another outstanding performance from the East Herrington lads as they ran out convincing 7-2 winners over Silky Park! 💙⚽

The boys started on the front foot and never looked back, racing into a 4-0 half-time lead thanks to some clinical finishing from Josh Dick and AJ.

The second half continued in the same fashion, with Josh reacting quickest to a loose ball to grab his second of the game and make it 5-0. A great interception from Ryan Gray led to another Herrington goal before Silky Park pulled one back following an unfortunate own goal. The visitors added a second on the counter, but it was never enough to threaten the result. Another great penalty save from Alan Palin making it 2 in a row in the gulag.

The final say went to Josh Dick, who rounded off a superb afternoon by brilliantly chipping the keeper to complete his four-goal haul and seal a dominant 7-2 victory. 👏🔥
