We know it’s been a while since our last post, but here’s a quick update on how things are going in our first ever season.

After a tough start, the lads have really turned things around. We’ve started closing the gap, catching the pack, and putting ourselves right in the mix for a strong finish.

A massive highlight recently was beating league leaders to reach the last 16 of the Anth Topping Memorial Cup, along with recording our biggest win so far with a 20-2 result in the league.

Things are really starting to come together now, and we’re ready to push on until the end of the season and keep climbing that table.

Match Report: East Herrington FC 5–2 Washington Spartans FC
Back-to-Back Wins as Herra Hit Their Stride

East Herrington FC put on a dominant display this weekend, securing a well-deserved 5-2 victory over Washington Spartans in a match that showed just how far the team has come since the start of the season. With back-to-back wins now under their belt and a real sense of momentum building, the Herra are finally clicking as a team and climbing the table with confidence.

It was a positive start from the home side, with relentless pressing leading to an early breakthrough — forcing the Washington defence into a mistake that ended in an own goal, giving Herra a 1-0 lead. Several chances followed in the first half, but the lads went in at the break with a narrow lead.

Captain Joe Chambers made his return to the squad and brought that extra bit of composure and leadership to the side, especially when things got tense. Level headed joe showed a true leaders performance.

The visitors came out sharp after the restart and hit back on the counter to level it at 1-1, but Herra responded in style. A well-worked move saw Adam Tweddle fire home to make it 2-1, after being picked out beautifully by Tony Armstrong. However, moments later, controversy struck as Washington were awarded a penalty that never should’ve been given — contact was clearly outside the box — but the spot-kick stood, and it was 2-2.

But East Herrington showed real character. Rather than let heads drop, the lads pushed on and dominated the remainder of the game. Tony Armstrong, who was different class in the midfield all game, bagged two goals incuding a penalty, pulling the strings and leading by example.

The cherry on top came late on, as Ryan Gray bent an absolute beauty into the top corner from the edge of the box, capping off a clinical and commanding second-half performance.

Special mention to Jamie Stuart, who earned Man of the Match honours — a true engine in defence who ran himself into the ground for the full 90 minutes.

Credit to Washington Spartans, who kept going until the final whistle and never gave up, but in truth, they didn’t really test us too much on the day as Herra controlled large spells of the match.

Shout out as well to Liam Chambers (Designer Drip) for making sure the squad was fuelled up with some quality beef dips – proper team spirit off the pitch too!

With the lads now starting to gel and confidence flowing, attention turns to next week’s fixture against The Board Inn. Let’s keep this run going and make it three in a row.

Match Review: East Herrington FC 3 - 0 Ryhope Village Football Club
October 12, 2025

A dominant display from East Herrington FC saw them cruise to a 3-0 victory over a strong Ryhope Village side, in what was arguably one of our most complete performances of the season so far and take the first clean sheet in the league.

Despite missing a few key players including our top scorer A*z Chambers through injury, who took the reins from the sidelines in a managerial role the lads stepped up brilliantly. Debuts were handed to two new players who slotted in seamlessly: Gav Mac at centre-back, who commanded the back line alongside skipper Callum "Cal" Scott, and Nath Martin in goal who kept a clean sheet, they looked assured throughout and brought a calming presence to the back line.

The message from the manager has been clear in recent weeks commit more players into the attack and the squad executed that plan to perfection. With A*z out injured, the midfielders took centre stage, each one finding the back of the net in a fluid, high-energy first half.

Reece Britton, who was deservedly named Man of the Match, opened the scoring when assisted by chrissy pulling it back to reece who finished from outside the area into the bottom corner his all-action, box-to-box display set the tone for the day. Shortly after, Danny Wright pulled one back across goal for Niall Hodgson to calmly slot home and double the lead. Then came a moment of class as Chrissy Cooly capped off a fine first half with a cheeky back-heeled finish, assisted by Jack Thoms after some smart buildup play.

Going into the break 3-0 up, East Herrington controlled the second half with maturity and composure, managing the game well and preserving the clean sheet. Every single player gave 100%, including the lads who came off the bench to help see the game out.

While Reece Britton edged the Man of the Match honours, it truly was a collective team effort. Performances like this show what the team is capable of, and if they can build on it, a strong run of form could be just around the corner.

Credit to Ryhope Village, who came into the match off the back of a good start to the season. They never gave up and battled throughout, but just couldn’t find their rhythm today.

Match Review – East Herrington FC vs Seaham The Mill Inn

East Herrington FC finally got 3 points on the board this weekend with a thrilling 5–4 victory over Seaham The Mill Inn. It was a game that had everything – quality goals, a hat-trick hero, late drama, and plenty of grit to see it through.

The lads started brightly and it was Liam Chambers who opened the scoring in style, smashing one into the top corner from 25 yards out to make it 1–0. The lead didn’t last long, with Seaham pulling level, but heads never dropped. East Herrington responded by stepping up a gear and playing some of their best football of the season.

Adam Tweddle showed great composure when through on goal, slotting home to restore the lead at 2–1. Not long after, Aaron Chambers broke the line and coolly dinked the ball over the keeper for 3–1. Confidence was flowing, and just before half-time Aaron struck again, drilling one low across the keeper into the bottom corner to make it 4–1 at the break.

Early in the second half, a ball sent Aaron Chambers clear on goal, and he kept his composure to bend it round the keeper and seal his hat-trick, putting East Herrington 5–1 up. At that stage, it looked like game over. But with tired legs creeping in and a bit of complacency setting in, Seaham found a way back, scoring three quick goals to make it 5–4 and set up a nervy ending.

Despite being down to 10 men for the final minutes after the captain Joe Chambers was sin-binned, East Herrington regrouped, kept their composure, and saw the game out by dominating the closing stages.

There was also a standout debut from Tony Armstrong, who looked cool and slick throughout, oozing confidence and composure on the ball. His performance rightfully earned him Man of the Match.

First league starts for Jamie Stuart and Michael Atkinson, who both looked outstanding and slotted into the side seamlessly, showing the depth and quality in the squad.

First win of the season, the lads showed quality, fight, and resilience. A deserved three points – and hopefully the start of more to come!

Match Review
Lost 5-1 to Silksworth Park. Standards weren’t good enough, and we need to do much better. This has to be the wake-up call for us to raise our game, stick together, and start putting things right next week.

East Herrington FC are back at home this week as we take on Silksworth Park FC, looking to turn our form around after a rough start to the season. The lads know improvements are needed, and this is the perfect opportunity to bounce back and show the fight and quality we’re capable of.

Match Review: East Herrington FC 0-3 The Board Inn

East Herrington fell to a 3-0 Away defeat against The Board Inn, but the game was closer than the score suggests. For 70 minutes it was finely balanced at 0-0, with both sides battling hard before The Board Inn finally broke the deadlock.

With bare numbers available and heavy legs, the lads were gassed once we went behind, and the pitch — full of holes and damage from motorbikes — didn’t make things any easier. As we pushed for an equaliser, The Board Inn caught us on the counter to double their lead, before a defensive error gifted them a third to finish us off.

A big positive on the day was the stand-out performance from Man of the Match Joe Chambers, whose display as captain showed the level we all need to reach if we’re going to start turning these games into wins. As a group, we know we need to step it up a notch and start taking our chances.
