Sunderland Leon Football Club U9 Gold v Whitburn Panthers
Huge win for the lads today, we turned up with the minimum players and no substitutes, 1 of the players missing was our goalkeeper so we had a lot going against us today, that said the lads stepped up and took the game to the opposition, and Elliot stepped up to go in goal.
The lads started off strong with Leon, Carter, Mason and Ronnie playing high causing a real threat, with all getting half chances. Shortly after the ball fell to Carter who took it past his player and hit a strike into the back of the net to give the lads the early lead, not long later Carter put a cross into the box where Mason and Ronnie were waiting, before it got to either one of the opposition defenders knocked it back into their own net to double our lead.
Just before half time Ronnie went on a run, cut inside and hit the ball into the corner of the net to give us a 3-0 lead at the break.
In the first half we only had 1 shot against us, and put on a very dominant attacking display, we therefore moved Reggie into midfield leaving Joel at the back by himself, moving Ronnie up to play just behind Mason.
The lads started off quick again with Carter grabbing an early goal, and Mason hitting a free kick just wide.
The lads continued to play high, press and have the vast amount of the ball, we were awarded a corner and Ronnie played it short to Carter who cut into the box and struck it into the back of the net.
The lads didn’t take their foot off, they continued with Mason and Ronnie having a shot saved, and Reggie and Leon putting shorts just wide, with Carter hitting the cross bar.
We knew we had more goals in us and continued to press, Carter got another from open play after a brilliant run down the left side, then went on to get the final goal of the game moments later.
A truly dominant performance from the lads today, huge credit to them all for playing with no subs, no natural goalkeeper and playing on grass something they don’t do often and putting on such a performance.
Today’s Players of the Match were awarded to Carter for his 5 goals and 1 assist, and to Elliot for stepping up and filling in for Harry in goal! 👏
