SUNDERLAND ATW 4–4 WEARSIDE WANDERERS

Wanderers fight back twice to earn a point in an eight-goal thriller at Ford Hub.

Wearside Wanderers showed plenty of character to battle back from behind twice and claim a 4–4 draw against Sunderland ATW.

The Wanderers were caught sleeping in the opening 15 minutes, with ATW taking full advantage. Their winger found space in behind the defence twice, and two clinical finishes quickly put the hosts 2–0 ahead.

Rather than letting their heads drop, Wanderers began to grow into the game. The lads started playing some excellent football out from the back, working hard to play through the ATW press and get the strikers involved.

That improvement soon brought its reward. Some brilliant work from the Wanderers forwards created an opening for Aaron Mason, who kept his composure and slotted the ball into the bottom corner to make it 2–1.

The momentum had completely shifted, and Wanderers found their equaliser before the break. Ben played the ball forward and star man Olly picked it up before calmly finishing to complete the comeback.

HALF-TIME: Sunderland ATW 2–2 Wearside Wanderers

The second half continued at a frantic pace. As the Wanderers legs began to tire, ATW’s sharp forwards took advantage and struck twice in quick succession to restore their two-goal advantage at 4–2.

Once again, though, the lads refused to give in.

After several missed opportunities, Leo decided to take matters into his own hands and found the net to drag Wanderers back into the contest at 4–3.

With around ten minutes remaining, Wanderers pushed for the equaliser. Olly picked the ball up in a dangerous area and fired a low cross across the box, where Luke was waiting to slot home and make it 4–4.

Wanderers continued to battle until the final whistle, securing a point after twice finding themselves two goals behind.

There are still lessons to learn, particularly from the opening stages and the spell early in the second half, but the character shown by the lads was another positive sign.

Another game. Another lesson. The first win will come.

FT: Wearside Wanderers 2 - velocity Tavern 3

A game of pure frustration 30 seconds in the wanderers should’ve been in the lead as Koby puts one wide. Shortly after a nasty collision with 2 velocity players leads to a lad doing his ankle and calling it an early day. After 10 mins the game took off again and they capitalise on a sleeping defence. HT 0-1. Second half start and the wanderers start to playing some good football getting in some good chances but zero end product. A free kick 40 yards out Jack Thynne puts a curing cross in from the left and Edison Houghton gets inbetween 2 of there players to head one home for the wanderers 1-1. A free kick gets given on the edge of our box and there ST curls one around the wall 2-1. Olly Schofield receives it on the edge of the box and smashes it past the keeper 30 yards out. The lads switched off and they put a dangerous ball in the box to make it 3-2 with 5 to go. FT 3-2 colliery tavern

FT:Board Inn 3 Wearside Wanderers 3

First game in the clubs history seen us take the Board inn a good team that’s been around this level for a while now. A Slow start for the wanderers cost us in the first 15-20 minutes lads not switched on etc seen us fall 2-0 down after 20 mins. As the game went on the wanderers grew in confidence and a loose ball from a corner kick fell to Koby Jones who hit it on the volley crossbar and in from 30 yards out. Half time fell and the gaffers made a tactical change few lads came off and set up in a new formation. Kyle Welsh intercepted a pass and drove into the opposite half winning a foul 25 yards out. He stepped up for the free kick and slotted in top right the lads made it 2-2 after that the Wanderers had all the confidence winning all the second balls etc. Another foul was made and the wanderers found themselves with a free kick 35 yards out Edison Houghton stepped up and made the keeper work for Lennon Wilkinson to follow it up and slot it home 3-2 The lads dug deep and defended well for 20 minutes, A few outstanding saves from Sam Ebdon and few last second blocks kept the lads in the lead until they pounced on a rebound to make it 3-3 in the last 10 mins . Chances at both ends clearances off the line the game was for the taking. Until the 90 mins came to a close.
