🟢⚫️THE PROM 1-0 DERBY PIRATES ⚫️🟢

Not one for the neutrals today… 😂

A proper terrible game of football for anyone who came to watch, with possession being passed between the two teams like neither side actually wanted it. Chances were few and far between, although we had a couple of clear-cut opportunities that really should have ended up in the back of the net.

Half Time: Promenade 0-0 Derby Pirates

Three changes were made at half time in an attempt to liven the lads up and thankfully, it worked.

⏱️ 50th MINUTE — GOAL! 1-0 PROM!
Substitute Dale Spence picked the ball up on the left and drove at his man. A couple of stepovers later, Dale beats his defender and fires a lovely square ball across the box.

Another substitute, Yohannes Oboghare, was on hand to make absolutely no mistake, smashing it into the corner! 💥⚽

A fantastic moment for Yohannes as he grabs his FIRST GOAL FOR THE CLUB and gives The Prom the lead.

From there, it was all about digging in.
The lads battled for every second ball, defended when we needed to and managed to escape danger whenever Derby Pirates threatened. It certainly wasn't pretty, but sometimes you've just got to get the job done.

Was it our best performance? Absolutely not.
Did we turn up today? Debatable. 😂
Did we get the 3 points? YOU BET WE DID. 👊

Poor performance, but 3 points on a day we never really turned up for — we'll take that every single time.

After usually scraping together around 13 lads, 20 players turned up today — our best turnout EVER. And with that came some serious competition for places… something the gaffer might actually have to get used to! 😂

⚽️ 1' — PROMENADE 1-0 RIVERVIEW
What a start!
Nat decides to completely bamboozle everyone by dummying the ball out for a throw-in…🤣

He then launches a long throw down the line for Dan Brown to flick on. Matthew Hickey is first to react, playing it straight through the lines for Aidan Wilkinson, who makes absolutely no mistake and smashes it into the back of the net.

⚽️ 15' — PROMENADE 2-0 RIVERVIEW
Josh Johnson picks out a beautifully weighted d**k over the top and onto the run of Aidan Wilkinson.
Aidan gets there and leaves the keeper with absolutely no chance.
Two goals for Aidan and the Promenade are cruising. 🚀

Full-back turned winger Lawson Rutherford gets onto a through ball and squares it across to Dan Brown.
Dan has time to faint his man, compose himself and tap it home.
And there’s an extra reason to celebrate…

Another brilliant ball over the top, this time finding Lawson Rutherford in behind.
Lawson sets himself and absolutely smashes it home with his weaker foot.

Half time comes and, unfortunately, a fair few of the lads have to head off for the Sunderland game.
So it’s time for the rest of the squad to step up…
And we also welcomed defender Stanley Maduakor and midfielder Yohannes on their Promenade debuts.

A ball is sprayed up the pitch and debutant Stanley Maduakor is first onto it.
Stanley then decides to put on a little show…
He dances past TWO defenders before laying it square to Jordan Henderson, who from about 5 yards out simply cannot miss.
And thankfully… he doesn’t. 😂

THE PROMENADE FC 3–3 HYLTON SPORTS CLUB

3–0 DOWN. 3–3 FULL TIME. ABSOLUTE SCENES.

Well… where do we even start with that one? 😂
3’ — Hylton get a corner, we apparently forget how marking works and leave a man completely free at the back post. He duly obliges. 1–0 Hylton.

18’ — Quick counter, mix-up at the back and Hylton double their lead. 2–0. At this point, some of us were already mentally checking what time the pub opened. 🍺

45’ — Lunging challenge, referee points to the spot. Hylton stick the penalty away. 3–0.

Half time. 3–0 down. Not exactly the team talk you dream about. 😂
But whatever was said at half time clearly worked because the lads came out looking like they'd actually remembered how to play football.

50’ — GOAL! ⚽🔥
Jamie Brown launches a looping ball straight down the middle. Aidan Wilkinson takes it down with a lovely side-footed touch, takes another touch and casually d**ks it over the keeper.
Crossbar. In. Lovely stuff.

Three minutes later…
53’ — GOAL! ⚽
Harvey Day gets shoved in the box while going for a header. Penalty.
Aidan steps up… keeper guesses correctly and saves it.
BUT WAIT… HARVEY DAY IS THERE! 😂
First to the rebound and slots it into the bottom corner.
3–2. GAME ON. 🔥

From there, the Promenade start throwing everything at Hylton. Chance after chance, but apparently the goal had become about 8 feet wide and we still couldn't find it.

85’ — GOAL! ⚽🔥
CB Harvey Day gets told to forget defending and go and pretend he's a striker.
Jamie Brown plays the ball through to Harvey WHILE BEING FOULED 😂 and Harvey absolutely leathered it into the side netting.
3–3!

Cue absolute limbs. 🕺😂
From 3–0 down to 3–3, the lads showed some serious character in that second half.

A proper game of two halves with Hylton dominating the first, Promenade dominated the second, and somehow we've ended up sharing the points.
Could've gone either way in the end, but we'll take the comeback and move on. 💪

🟢⚫️THE PROMENADE FC 4–5 VELOCITY THE ROYALTY ⚫️🟢
A frustrating afternoon for The Promenade FC as we went down 5–4 to velocity the royalty in a game that had absolutely everything — goals, cards, controversial decisions and enough arguments to keep the WhatsApp group going all week. 😂

⚽ 21’ — 1-0 Promenade
Josh finds Lawson, who puts a dangerous cross in. It comes back off the post and Dan is on hand to absolutely leather the rebound into the net. Lovely stuff. 💥

⚠️ 25’ — Velocity goal
Velocity equalise, although from where we were standing, the scorer looked deffo offside. VAR would have had a busy afternoon 😂

⚽ 30’ — 2-1 Promenade
Jamie with a great switch to Peck, who puts a beauty to the back stick for Dale Spence to smash home. A proper team goal. 👌

⚠️ 32’ — Velocity goal
Velocity score directly from a corner… although we're still trying to work out how it was a corner in the first place. 😂 We'll let you make your own mind up.

🟨 34’ — Peck booked
Peck sees yellow for pulling his man back. Probably best he didn't tell the ref what he thought about the decision. 😂

Dale gets brought down in the box and we're all waiting for the penalty… nothing given! 😤
Thankfully, Peck follows up and absolutely smashes it home anyway. Justice? We'll take it! 😂💥

Because apparently we weren't allowed to enjoy being in front for too long. 😂

⚠️ 40’ — Velocity goal
Velocity equalise again, with another goal that had the Prom players shouting OFFSIDE! from practically every postcode in the area. 👀😂

Unfortunately, a mistake at the back gifts Velocity the lead. 4–3.

⚽ 80’ — Velocity goal
Another mistake at the back and Velocity make it 5–3. Two mistakes that ultimately proved costly.

⚽ 89’ — Promenade goal
Jamie puts John through with a great ball which he slots calmly past the keeper as we push for a late comeback.

A proper frustrating one.
On a different day, we come away with the win. There were definitely a few decisions today that left us scratching our heads — and probably a few more that will be discussed over a pint later. 🍺😂

But ultimately, we have to be better.
The performance wasn't good enough today and the mistakes at key moments cost us.

No hiding from it — we dust ourselves down, learn from it and make sure we're better next week.

9 goals, plenty of drama, but unfortunately no points.
Time to put this one behind us and go again.

After a tough pre-season, the lads are finally ready to get the Division 2 campaign underway! ⚽️

Tomorrow we kick off our season against Velocity The Royalty at Washington Hub, with a 9:20am kick-off.

💪 The hard work has been put in.
🔥 The preparation is done.
⚽️ Now it’s time to compete.

🟢⚫️ FULL TIME | Promenade FC 1-1 Wearmouth Colliery Welfare ⚫️🟢

Our final pre-season test ends all square as we battled to a well-earned 1-1 draw against Wearmouth Colliery Welfare.

Once again, we travelled with the bare 11, with three lads joining us in the second half and being thrown straight into the action to show what they could do. Credit to everyone who stepped up—another massive effort from the squad.

It was a tight game with very few clear-cut chances. Glenn Westley came closest early on but couldn't keep his free header from a corner on target. At the other end, Andrew kept us in the game with a superb double save, before Dale Spence was denied in a one-on-one by a good stop from the Wearmouth keeper.

Wearmouth took the lead in the 55th minute in controversial fashion. A decision that looked a clear corner to us was given as a goal kick instead. They moved the ball quickly up the pitch, with what appeared to be an offside player involved in the move before finishing to make it 1-0.

The response from the lads was exactly what we've come to expect throughout pre-season. We took control of the game, dominated possession and kept knocking on the door for an equaliser.

It finally arrived in the 82nd minute. Dan Brown switched the play out wide to Aidan Wilkinson, who took a positive touch before driving forward and picking out Dan's run with a perfectly weighted pass. Dan kept his composure and fired into the far corner to make it 1-1.

On the balance of play, a draw was probably the fair result, with both teams working hard and creating few real chances.

A big thank you to Wearmouth Colliery Welfare for the game, and we wish you all the best for the season ahead. 🤝
