Now our first show of the year is behind us, we move on to the rest of April..
First up next Sunday you can join me at bodiam international arena with the Weald Western team for barrel racing and ranch trail clinic..
Then the week after, at Whitewoods Equestrian in Surrey for a clinic and fun competition series of events focusing on trail with speed and finesse elements to it..

Thank you to everyone who came to our first event of 2026. To all those that came to ride, spectate and support the clinic and competition.
Very grateful to all those that travelled to be with us, I know it was a very long day for several of our riders.
Thank you to Cinch Up for coming and providing £50 towards prize money for our ranch competition in the morning. I hope our spectators and riders enjoyed seeing you as much as we enjoyed having you with us for the day.. apologies I didn't get a chance to come over and do some shopping myself.
Thank you to my parents, Chris Palmer, Danielle Shearn Rebecca Palmer and anyone else who poo picked, helped move things, lift things, sort music, pack things away, all help I am extremely grateful for and apologies to anyone I may have missed.
Thank you to Jude Childs and Willow Farm Equestrian for being amazing hosts, preparing a fantastic surface for all of our events..

Congratulations to all of our riders and horses, hopefully everyone came away feeling like a winner and got something from the day.

Focus - Pole Bending
Pole bending is a timed rodeo speed event where a horse and rider weave through a line of six poles spaced 21 feet apart, turn at the end, and weave back. It requires high agility, speed, and precise control for a fast, penalty-free run.

Focus - Barrel Racing
Barrel racing is a rodeo event in which a horse and rider attempt to run around preset barrels in the fastest time. It requires a combination of the horse's athletic ability and the horsemanship skills of a rider in order to safely and successfully maneuver the horse around three barrels placed in a triangle pattern.

Focus - Ranch Pleasure
Ranch pleasure classes showcase the working, forward-moving, and versatile ranch-style horse, emphasizing natural movement, a relaxed attitude, and a "pleasure to ride" demeanor. Unlike traditional Western Pleasure, these classes feature a ground-covering stride (including extended gaits) with a light contact or a natural neck position.

Key Aspects of Ranch Pleasure:
Gaits: The horse should exhibit a ground-covering, natural stride, particularly in the extended trot and lope, without being rushed.
Manoeuvres: Classes typically include walking, jogging, extending the trot, loping, simple lead changes, stops, and turns.
Presentation: Natural grooming is required; excessive artificial enhancement, such as banding, braiding, or polishing, is generally discouraged.
Scoring: Judges focus heavily (often 80%) on the performance of the horse-rider combination, looking for a willing, obedient partner.
