The threadline rod has been sold, but the punt rod is still available. This will be perfect for this spring and summers tench season. Although designed for fishing from a punt, this is ideal for close range float fishing from the bank as well.

Part 8
This video is nearing the end of the rod making process. The next videos will start what I refer to as the rod building part of the build.
Apologies for the delay posting this, I have been away last week. Any emails sent to the website should have been answered now too. If I have missed yours feel free to send another!

Part 7.2
The making of a Richard Walker Carp rod.
This one is quite a long video, i have had to split it into 2.
Keep in mind this is just the planing of 1 strip, each rod section consists of 6 strips.
This rod is a 2 section rod so I will need to plane 12 strips and set the planing forms twice.

Today I'm final planing lots of strips for various rods, including filming the next installment of the mkiv carp rod build. The first and most important job is to sharpen the plane irons. It is essential that these are kept razor sharp throughout.
For final planing is use two planes, one taking a fairly heavy cut of around 0.010" and another for finishing which takes a fine cut of around 0.0015". Both of theses will be sharpened after every strip is planed.
Because of how regularly I sharpen these irons it is important that the sharpening method is quick, easy and repeatable. Because of this I prefer to use oil stones with an eclipse honing guide. I use a Norton combination stone for grinding the initial angle, followed by a super fine stone for the micro bevelled. Thus makes it quick and easy to hone the micro bevel between each strip to keep both planes razor shap between each strip.

Part 6
Part 6 of these videos showing the making of a Richard Walker mkiv carp rod.
Exciting times, after five previous installments I actually start the process of planing the bamboo strips.
Thanks to my wife for filming and editing all of these videos.

All of the videos I have been posting recently are also being uploaded to my YouTube channel. This should make it easier to find them if you would like to watch them again in the future.

Part 5
We are on part 5 of the video series now and haven't even started planing the bamboo yet. This video covers straightening the strips and pressing the nodes. In a production setting in the 50s and 60s these steps were often skipped. Strips were often cut with a saw rather than being split by hand and the nodes were often just filed flat.

Some nice weekend viewing for you. Part 3 covers splitting the culm of cane ready to begin planing.
These videos are also being posted on YouTube to make them easier to find if you want to watch them again in the future.
