That’s why our approach has never been just about training smart. It’s also about learning how to run wild.

Because during an ultra, you’re rarely just executing a perfect plan. You’re constantly interpreting what’s happening around you and within you. We’re introducing an exciting new process to become a Beyond Ultra Athlete!

We’re calling it: High Carb or The Highway’- A mandatory carb intake test! 🎉 🍔 🥘

Nothing too extreme, just a standardised test:

250g carbs/hour must be consumed on your next long run.

We’ve found it’s the biggest limiter for most people going longer, so it makes sense to address it early.

If you can get through it comfortably though, you’re probably ready for proper ultra training.

Our mantra for 2026?

Train Smart, Run Wild.

I started Beyond Ultra because I kept seeing the same thing. Runners with real potential getting stuck following programs that weren’t built for what mountain ultras actually require.

Generic plans that treat every athlete the same. Volume for the sake of volume. And a lot of folks hitting walls they didn’t need to hit.

I’ve been there myself. Made plenty of mistakes, learned what works the hard way, and realized that smart training beats suffering for suffering’s sake every time.

Now I’m opening up coaching spots for runners ready to train with purpose. You’ll get programming tailored to your terrain, your schedule, and where you actually need to improve. We’ll build the specific fitness mountain racing demands, dial in your fueling, and make sure you’re peaking when it counts.
