CLIENT PB!

My client Sophie hit a 100kg Box Squat today, I'm so stoked!

Sophie is currently training for a thru hike and is a regular sprinter, so we've been using low repetition box squats in order to develop tremendous power in the hips and glutes. Today we were feeling hyped, so went for a 1 rep @8 - 8.5 RPE

More good stuff to come.

The Secret to Getting Shredded for Summer?

Hello, I hope that you are having a great weekend!

It's now closing in on the end of March, which means Summer is only a few months away. Now, if you've been attending the gym for a while, you'll know that making progress takes a long time. Especially when it comes to getting your body exactly the way you want it.

I'm here to tell you that there is a way that you can boost the speed of fat loss and muscle gain, making sure that you can be in perfect shape way in time for summer.

Strength training is the answer!

Strength training has a myriad of benefits. Way too many to list here. But to name a few:

• Speed up metabolism

• Improved fat loss

• Improved body composition

• Improved joint health

• Better quality of life

If you're interested in the benefits of strength training, I've linked an article below from Women's Health Magazine
https://www.womenshealthmag.com/fitness/a34030549/strength-training-benefits/

And just because the article is from Women's Health, doesn't mean that strength training is not for guys too!

If you have any questions about the article, or fitness in general, send me a message

Happy reading!
Dominic

After + before
Left:87kg
Right 73kg

In the picture on the right I was training (what I thought was) hard in the gym, but without direction, purpose or any sort of program.

Cut to the picture on the left, this is me now. After learning about nutrition, training and more importantly programming! Yes the body fat is a little bit higher, but I'm healthier, fitter and stronger than I have ever been.

Everybody who joins the gym does so because they want to improve in some way. To look better, to feel better, to become stronger, to become healthier etc.

These are all very good reasons for getting yourself into fitness, however they often come from a negative mindset.
"I want to become stronger because I am weak"
"I want to look better because I am ugly"

These intentions that stem from negativity can often put a downer on training and make it feel like a chore.

Instead of thinking you need to improve because you're not good enough, think about improving out of having compassion for yourself

"I love my body, so I want to make it the best it possibly can be"

If you adopt this mindset in the gym, you will also begin to love and appreciate yourself outside of the gym too!

Much love
Dom

If you want to burn fat you do cardio, right?

Cardio is merely a way of burning calories and increasing endurance. Yes it is possible to lose fat from just doing cardio, but if you really want to make a difference to how your body looks and feels, then resistance training with weights is a must!

Having more muscle will dramatically change your body composition (how your body looks) and will also increase the amount of calories you burn at rest.

A new systematic review and meta-analysis shows we can lose around 1.4 per cent of our entire body fat through strength training alone, which is similar to how much we might lose through cardio or aerobics.

I first stepped foot in the gym when I was 19 years old, and I absolutely hated it…

My fitness journey started just like any other, I wanted to have a better body, be more muscular, and have a nice six pack.

I jumped from program to program and one diet fad to another and was always left with the same feeling. I was not seeing the results that I wanted. And to top it all off, I developed a hip problem that never quite seemed to go away.

That hip problem became my driving force and is ultimately what led to fitness becoming my passion. Through many hours of research and experimentation, I have discovered the importance of training the entire body to be both strong and mobile. I want to show you that it is possible to eradicate pain, whilst becoming the best version of yourself. Pain sucks, life shouldn’t!

I have learned many things; but one of the things that stands out to me the most is the profound effect that fitness has on mental health, physical wellbeing, and overall quality of life. I like to say that exercise is a sort of meditation for the body, whether you’re walking on the treadmill or lifting heavy weights.
