Today was a successful day for SBC. 2 wins secured 💙🩵

Here’s what the crew had to say….

A small but mighty crew from SBC made the trip to Northwich Rowing Club for one of the final head races of the season.

It may be a short course (2350m), but it’s always a fantastic event — well attended, brilliantly run, and with a really friendly atmosphere.

Was it worth the 2-hour drive? Absolutely.

🏆 Stew Barnett took the win in a competitive F single — never easy to do away from home — and then doubled up with another victory in the F pair alongside Andy Harris.

Huge thanks to Northwich for the warm welcome — we’ll be back next year with an even bigger squad! 💪🚣‍♂️

Yesterday we saw Stourport take on Vesta Masters Head 2026.

Huge thanks to Sons of Thames for hosting — fantastic location and such a welcoming club 👏

Big shoutout to Phil “Footplate” Vaughan for driving the minibus and getting us there in style 🚐

And massive well done to Dave and Pete on their first ever competitive race — what a way to start, doesn’t get much bigger than an 8s event! 💪

Great day all round, really pleased with the time — and finished it off with a few well-earned local beers 🍺

March- Meet a member. This month we meet Lee. Here’s what he had to say….

Hey, I’m Lord Lee James Evans of Glencoe—SBC bar manager, junior coach, “elite” rower, and proud Sub 7 club member.

🗓️Time at club: I joined SBC in 2021 after completing the Learn to Row course and quickly found myself in a crew we called “The Massive”—a misfit group of novices who spent a lot of time mastering the art of losing… until we finally pulled it together and won at Stourport Regatta.

🏆Highlight: One of my all-time highlights has to be capsizing at Pairs Head with Mr Danby, followed by us sharing one towel in the changing rooms at Furnivall Boat Club after forgetting ours. Great bonding session.

🚣‍♂️Favourite boat: People often ask what my favourite boat is—after trying a few, it’s definitely one with a motor.

💪Toughest session: The toughest session I’ve ever completed? The 12 Pubs of Christmas. The stamina and control required was on another level.

💪Toughest race: My toughest race would have to be Worcester Head in a single—by the finish I was completely broken, covered in sweat, tears and blood.

SBC means a lot to me, and being able to coach juniors from their first strokes to their first races is one of the most rewarding parts of being at the club.
