Match report: Three Lions vs Plough & Harrow

Sunday morning started in usual fashion, with Coopes receiving a call from Jack Bambury to withdraw himself from the match day squad on medical grounds, after taking Saturday night too far again…

Three Lions started the game positively, and found the breakthrough after 15 minutes when Toby Warren beat his full back and fired home his first goal of the season!

The Plough & Harrow equaliser came against the run of play, a brilliant finish from outside the box saw the first half end 1-1, leaving the lions with some work to do in the second half.

The lions made a much better start to the second half, with some great football being played before a Connor Cummins cross found Luke Wheatcroft who headed home to make it 2-1.

Plough & Harrow were then reduced to 10 men after a shocking kick out on Josh Hill. Thankfully, Josh made a miraculous recovery from what at first appeared to be a serious injury, and was back on his feet as soon as the ref had given the red card…

Going down to 10 men didn’t stop Plough & Harrow, and they equalised for the second time after a mix up at the back for the lions, where Freddie Nock left himself favourite for tit of the day!

At 2-2 with 15 minutes to go, it became all Three Lions pushing for the winner. Dan Houghton crossed in a fantastic ball which again found Luke Wheatcroft, who converted his second of the game to win it for the lions!

Today the lads played their first game in the new kit, a big thanks to Froggies cafe for sponsoring us!

It was another 3 points for the Lions in a hard fought 1-0 win against Hamilton Rangers, with Tom Riley scoring the only goal of the game.

Next week we face Plough & Harrow where we hope to continue the recent good form.

Last week the lads for their first victory of the season, thanks to goals from Alex Pugh, Connor Cummins and Harry Field!

This Sunday Three lions are in a county cup game against Stoke Prior at Baxter college, 10:30 kickoff!

A quick match report from today’s game,

The game kicked off and 10 minutes in was unfortunately abandoned, due to an injury to a Kidderminster united player that needed medical attention

We go again next week and wish the best of luck to Sam Jones in recovery!

On Sunday, The lads faced early league leaders sporting club, looking to bounce back from the loss of the week before.

The game kicked off with Cian Prendergast being a stand in goalie with no gloves, as Connor Coombes thought we were playing at home, not away.

The game started fairly evenly with both sides having chances, Freddie nock saw a shot saved early doors before Josh Hill went through 1 on 1 with the keeper but could not finish.

Three Lions were then undone by 2 set pieces, 2 corners which were both not cleared, saw 2 quick goals from sporting club, and going into half time 2-0 down, the lads had some work to do!

Half time saw a few changes and a change of formation from the gaffer coopes, Three Lions started the much better side and when Keiran Tucholski was fouled from around 30 yards out, Ben Bambury aimed to prove the referee wrong who told him he wouldn’t shoot from the free kick, Bambo did and an absolute worldie pulled a goal back for Lions, 2-1.

At this point, it was all lions pushing for an equaliser, and it should have been made slightly easier, after an awful tackle on Luke Wheatcroft saw a straight red card for the hosts.

However, after pushing for a goal, with 20 minutes to go, a through ball was played through the defence and the Sporting winger nipped infront of Connor Coombes to get to the ball first and finish well, 3-1 sporting.

Three lions did not give up, until we knew it wasn’t our day, when Josh Hill ran from inside his own half, past the sporting right back, past the the sporting centre back and produced an excellent finish, only to somehow be ruled out from the Sporting Linesman, to the anger of the three lions lads, that’s the kind of poor decisions that get made in Sunday League.

Three Lions could then not find a way to score, and the Full time whistle blew and the score ended 3-1 to Sporting Club, in a game that we felt could have gone either way, we were on the wrong end of again.

This Sunday we face Kidderminster United, at Baxter College 10:45am Kickoff time, with the Lions looking for their first points of the season and to really get flowing in the league.

This morning the lads kicked the season off with an opener against a very good side, who we had some great battles with last year, Kewford Eagles FC, the lads were expecting a tough game in terrible weather conditions which mate the pitch fast and testing.

The game kicked off and Three Lions were immediately on the back foot, Kewford worked the ball well creating many chances, however, some great defending held them at bay, until a through ball put their striker through on goal and he finished well, 1-0 to Kewford and a lot of work to do for for Lions.

At this point, the lads knew they had to do something to get back into this game, or it could have been a rout.

With Three Lions now creating chances, an equaliser came, a corner whipped in was cleared as far as the edge of the box, where Freddie Nock was there to finish well, 1-1, Half time.

The second half started and Three Lions made 3 changes, looking to go on top in the game and gain control to find a winner, but it was Kewford who struck again, a fine cross from the Kewford winger found a free man in the box who found his header saved, but was then there to tap in the rebound, 2-1 Kewford.

With 20 minutes to go, the chances came thick and fast for Three Lions with us looking to find another equaliser, Ben Bambury give himself Tit of the day by rounding the keeper and then missing the target, before toby warren hit the post, and Jack Clarkes strike was somehow saved by the Kewford Keeper.

The full time whistle blew and it was Kewford who took the 3 points home, a disappointing opening where we felt as though with the chances created, we should have took something from the game.

All credit to Kewford however, a very good side and we’ll look forward for the reverse fixture in better weather, for some revenge.

Next week we go to Dudley Sports FC for another league game against ‘Sporting Club’ with the lads looking to bounce back and make a statement in the league this year, a 10:45 am kickoff.

After a week off due to half the lads being at cream fields, our 5th and final pre season game before the season kicks off next week was against Peacock Wanderers, being the final game until a tough game to start the season next week, we wanted to start well here.

With a strong starting 11, Three lions started the stronger side, knocking the ball about fairly easily and creating many chances

Throughout the first half, the goals went in very quickly after one another, with Jack Clarke scoring 3 worldies one after another, and Ben Bambury scoring 4 more goals to add to Clarkes hat trick meant we could take a 7-0 lead into half time and plenty of changes could be made.

The second half saw a whole different lineup as the gaffer wanted everyone to have as much game time as possible.

The second half was fairly even all half, with another goal for Three lions coming from Jack Bambury to make it 8-0, before an unfortunate consolation goal came from Peacock.

A first Appearance this season came with 15 minutes to go from Pip Davies, a future superstar, who we hope to be seeing more of towards the latter parts of the game this year😂!

The full time whistle blew and Three Lions took home a comfortable 8-1 victory in the final pre season game with some vital minutes for all.

Next week is the season opener, against a very good kewford eagles side who we had some great encounters with last year, it’s gonna be a cracker!

Yesterday, after a busy Saturday night for most of the team, the lads faced Areley Kings athletico, a good side from Kidderminster division 2 at Stourport High.

With Freddie Nocks outrageous text messages being leaked in the week about him needing ‘more,’ the gaffer bought him straight back down to earth by benching him and giving him the linesman flag for the first half!

The game started fairly even, with both sides having minor chances without anyone making the keepers really work.

It was Three lions who made the breakthrough, some great work from Cian Prendergast who slotted home nicely , 1-0 to the Lions.

After that, it was back and fourth with the goals, Areley Kings equalised, Then Toby Warren put us back infront with a great left footed finish, then Areley Kings equalised again, and then some good work from Connor Cummins who was then fouled in the box, converted the penalty himself and we went into halftime 3-2 up after a very sloppy half of football.

Plenty of changes were made at halftime, and the sloppiness continued, Areley Kings took advantage of a set piece which was not cleared to make it 3-3, and for pretty much the rest of the game there were 0 big chances, with Lions unable to find a winner at any stage.

The game ended 3-3 which was a disappointment to the lads who remained unbeaten in pre season, but annoyed that they could not come away with the victory.

The lads now have a week off next week as most head to Creamfields, however we will be back on the 31st at Baxter College to take on Peacock Wanderers.

Yesterday the lads played their 4th game of preseason against a team in our division, Glassboys Athletic, who we are very familiar with having playing them 3 times last season. With a new formation to be experimented, the lads were looking to keep the 100% record and to make it 4 wins from 4 in pre season.

The game started at a fast pace, with Toby warren having plenty of chances with some great through balls in the opening minutes.

The breakthrough then came through after some great work from the team who found Luke Wheatcroft and he slotted it into the back of the net, 1-0 Lions.

Glassboys fought back however, and quickly got a goal back after Dan Houghton was pushed off the ball ‘fairly’ with 2 hands in the back and it was 1-1 mid way into the first half.

However, lions quickly pounced back again with some good football where Luke Wheatcroft found himself in a goal scoring position again, where he once again converted and the lions went into half time 2-1 up!

The second half plenty of changes were made in the warm weather which saw another debut from Tom Riley after the debuts of harry field and Ben Bambury last week.

In quick successsion, lions found themselves on the back foot as 2 quick set pieces from Glassboys saw them go 3-2 very early in the second half and a lot of work to do for lions to get back in the game!

From then on, it was all lions, Connor Cummins produced 2 excellent finishes to put us 4-3 up and firmly in control of the game , and another 2 great goals came from Cian Prendergast who is having a great pre season, 6-3 to the lions and game set and match!

Next week we face Areley Kings Athletico at Stourport High School in our 5th match of pre season, looking to keep the momentum up going into the season!

Yesterdays the lads played their 3rd friendly of pre season against our toughest opponents yet, a good areley kings side who had a good season in the Kidderminster premier division last year.

The game started off pretty even, with Three Lions seeing a lot of the ball but struggling to break down areley kings. The first goal of the game went to areley kings, a long ball up to their target man Peter crouch and a flick on put their winger through on goal who finished well, going in to the break we found ourselves 1-0 down , but not out.

After plenty of changes from the gaffer at half time, 2 of them being new signings Ben Bambury and Harry Field, the lions looked to turned around the deficit and win the game.

Once again Lions saw a lot of possession and the breakthrough goal came from Alex Pugh, after some good work from Ben Bambury, 1-1.

With lions pushing for a winner, Ben Bambury was bought down in the box and left the referee no decision but to blow for a penalty, Bambo stepped up and converted, 2-1 to the lions.

Areley kings did not offer much more second half, and the game ended a good 2-1 win to Three lions who make it 3 from 3 in pre season with some good momentum going forward.

Next week we face Glassboys Athletic in our 4th pre season game with the lads looking to keep the 100% record.

On Sunday, the lads faced a good side in Sporting Rangers FC, a side that finished 7th in the Kidderminster Premier Division last season so we knew it was going to be a good test.

The lads started off where they left off last week, a great start with the lads playing some brilliant free flowing football saw us go into the break with a 2-0 lead and a very happy gaffer!

Second half and it was more of the same, another great half from the lads saw another 2 goals scored and a consolation from sporting, with makeshift keeper Keiran Tucholski having another solid game.

The full time whistle blew with a comfortable 4-1 win in the end which took the pre season tally to 2 wins from 2 with 2 overall superb performances.

Next week we face another Premier Divsion side Areley Kings with the lads looking to keep the momentum going!
