So as most of you know we went and won the Division 4 cup and also had a top 3 league finish holding onto 3rd with a +13 goal difference from the team below! What a year it’s been!
So here’s your detailed write up from our cup final win on 17.04.2026…
The boys in black and blue turned up bouncing for this one with good vibes flowing all round, knowing how much it meant to everyone involved in the club. 20 years in the making and before the game began Robbie Palmer & Keith Finnemore gave their talk in the changing room firing us all up for the occasion and going through how to approach this game. A surprise visit from Cath Mullins to give a speech of her own that meant so much to us all and told us of how much this would have meant to our very own JR7. Touching everyone’s heart in the changing room only made us want this more and more and we went out more than ready.
The game began with both sides showing nerves from the occasion, with not much football being played and a cagey affair in the midfield the ball never managed to settle for the first 15 minutes.
Not long after we managed to settle down and begin to play football out from the back and start to build higher up the pitch. As play opened up half chances started to arrive. Palmer managed to find space out wide taking on the full back where he found success and was able to cut back and fire the ball hard and low across the box. In doing so he managed to find the dazzling feet of Brad Christie who takes a excellent first touch out of his body and fires it hard and low into the bottom corner right corner leave the keeper no chance! The crowd erupt as Brad fires home early and adds another to his tally for the season. 1-0 up after we finally played football the way we can and looking to add more…
However, Queensbury had other plans in mind and responded within the next 15 minutes after pushing our back line deeper into our half with continuous long balls into the forward target man. Some half chances were created and they managed to win a few corners but we looked to be dealing with the pressure well. Queensbury’s consistency managed to pay off not long before the half time whistle, as their right winger managed to find a couple yards of space and used it well crossing the ball towards the back post finding the opposite winger who managed to head home off the underside of the crossbar bringing it all level at 1-1 just before half time.
We went in at half time knowing we had more to give and knew chances would come if we continued to play football and listened to the tactics given. Changes were made to the side by Robbie seeing Shaun replace Big Ry at the back and Lil Jord on out wide to freshen up the attack.
The second half began and we started just the way we wanted to… 2 minutes into the half and the perfect opportunity was granted to us as a ball was played over the top towards the left side. Lil Jord who reacted quickest using his fresh legs to his advantage played the ball over the goalkeeper who’d rushed out to try and save his side, leaving Jack Palmer the easiest chance he’s had all year slotting the ball into the back of an empty net to restore our lead at 2-1 with the perfect response we wanted.
20 minutes into the second half and we were in full swing controlling the game playing through the midfield and around the back with confidence. Levi Wright & Jamie Stride making bursting runs forward from the back was giving us that extra man in every attack. This caused us to overwhelm Queensburys overstretched midfield giving Leon Kirk & Luke Mountford the time and space you don’t want to give them to create chances. Queensbury held off well after we kept pushing and pushing for more goals and continued to create showing their resilience to hold off.
Late into the second half with 5 minutes remaining we managed to get a free kick near the byline from our constant attacks. Jimmy Shaw stepped up to deliver the ball into the box as we’d stepped up to try and seal the deal and get one last opportunity. Shaun Myles stood back post 2 arms up and that’s where the ball was delivered. As he climbed up highest and won the header directing it back across goal Jordan Johnson made a direct run towards the back post and was left with a free header at the back post to cap off a influential performance from the lad in the second half gaining himself the MOTM award for the night.
3-1 up with 5 minutes left we knew what we had to do. Keeping the ball with composure we saw the game out to the final whistle and at 3-1 the whistle blew sparking celebrations all round as we were triumph in a great game with a memorable performance.
