☔️ ⚽️ CAN IT BE DONE ON A COLD, RAINY NIGHT IN STOKE?

Well, the girls from Blythe Bridge JFC and Blurton Reds Sapphires certainly weren’t letting the weather stop them! 😂

It was brilliant to meet the team, who have joined forces this season and are being led by the brilliant Andi.

A number of the girls are from Meir, so I was really pleased to use my ward budget to contribute towards their kits. As a keen football fan, I know how important it is to give girls the opportunity to play football from a young age.

When I was their age -only 13 or 14 years ago - having a girls’ football team wasn’t really the done thing. That’s why I’m really proud to play a small part in supporting girls in our community to get involved in the game. 👏

Good luck for the rest of the season, girls! ⚽️💪

(And yes, I resisted the urge to turn up in my Chelsea shirt! 😂)

A massive shout-out to Laila, who not only continues to captain Stoke City Women's Development Squad on the pitch and score goals, but also gives her time to come along and help coach our Blurton Reds Sapphires girls. 🔴💎

It’s fantastic for the girls to see someone they can look up to, learn from and be inspired by.

Laila shows them that with hard work, dedication and a love for football, you can keep developing and achieving your goals.

From scoring for Stoke City to helping our Sapphires improve their skills, confidence and understanding of the game — Laila is showing that being a role model is about so much more than what happens on match day.

Sophie Tudor’s Development Squad were victorious against Derby County in the FA WNL Reserve Cup Determining Round, thanks to goals from Manon Closs, Lou Lander and Laila Tunstall.

Being a Sapphire is about so much more than just winning football matches. It’s about being part of a group of girls who support each other, work hard for each other and genuinely enjoy playing football together.

On the pitch, we want to see everyone involved.

⚽ Pressing together
⚽ Working hard when we have the ball — and when we don’t
⚽ Encouraging each other
⚽ Being brave enough to try things
⚽ Enjoying every minute together

When one player moves, another creates space. When one player presses, the rest of the team follows. When someone makes a mistake, we support them and go again.

And amongst all the hard work, there has to be plenty of laughter, smiles and fun — because these are memories the girls will carry with them long after the final whistle.

Three of the girls have clearly decided that tonight’s training session needs a little… TikTok intervention! 😂💃📱

While the rest of us are worrying about passing, movement and defending, these three are busy perfecting their latest dance routine. 🤣

And then there’s the coach… 👀

Standing there looking like he’s just realised this definitely wasn’t on the session plan! 😂
